Question Foil Delete

Is it really as easy as just taking off the foil or is there more to it?
and does any one have before and after pics?
Thanks,

Here's an after pic of mine:

I used pliers to remove the foil and paint stripper for the glue and fuzz. then I polished with steel wool. About a 2 beer job.

Mike I used a gel type paint stripper on my pipe. I made a scraper out of a peice of sheet metal, cut a hole with a hole saw cut the peice in half file the burrs off though.
Make sure you use gloves when removing the foil it is sharp!!!

The foil is the easy part. The insulation/sticky stuff is the hard part. I did the same as Joe, took paint stripper to it and let it do the work. Mine left a slippery residue so I took some goof off or something similar to that and took the steel wool to it. Took me a while to do it because I was working on the cleaning up all my boots (both sides) and a few other things. Wasnt bad at all. Its a heck of a difference in just the look alone!

is it difficult to take the whole tube out or do you have to work on it with it in?

You need to take it out of the truck. Plus it's a good time to clean the insides if there is oil in it and tighten the clamps on the boots down. I just wish I painted it.

Pull the tube, took all of 30 minutes to remove it, clean it and reinstall it...

Used a wire wheel on a grinder, makes quick work of it.

Oh you will definitely have to take it out. Just loosen the clamps on the boots(4 clamps on 2 boots) and wiggle it free. The IC pipe with the foil on it is a lot easier IMO to take out than the other side. Take boots completely off and give them a cleaning while you wait for stripper to work.

Any decent paint will do applied properly. Heat resistant is best as the tube runs down by the manifold. If you are anxious about removing the driver side IC tube, then you are in the club of folks who cannot change your own oil. It is about that simple. Unbolt and remove. BTW, I am not a fan of painting those. I like the polished look both for heat reflection and less soak. Painted tubes do look good though. That's about all, they look good. A polished tube ought to reject more radiant heat though less than when it was covered with that "silly" foil.

And just an FYI because it always comes up... That foil has 0 to do with heat and everything to do with noise.
