Ranger ignition

My old 94 ranger decided its stopped letting me take my key out or put it back in. Its OK, that old ignition switch has held on for the last 200k miles, so it doesnt really owe anyone anything.

How would i go about replacing this??? I dont mind having one key to get in and another to drive off. How would i open the colum??? How hard is this to replace??? Thanks

It is easy to replace. Most fords (including your ranger I believe) you dont even have to take apart the column. With the key in the ignition, turn it to run. Then right under where you put the key in the column, maybe 2-3 inches in, there should be a hole (next to the screw holes that hold the plastic on your column) that has a button in it. With the ignition turned to run, you should be able to depress the button (with a screwdriver, make sure you look in the hole with a flashlight and verify that it is the right one) and pull the whole cylinder out!

Yep, and the new switch lock assembly should pop right in, too. But before you install it, have a locksmith key it to your original.
