Cruise Control

Hello O wise guru's. Just bought a 03 PSD and I love it. Sold the old gasser. my 03 is a 7.3L Crew Cab Auto. The cruise doesent work. The cruise light in the dash will not even come on. Per the suggestions of the threads I read I am going to make sure the brake sensor is plugged in at the end of the master cylinder. Is there a way to test that sensor or is it just replace and cross fingers? I also checked the fuses and didnt see any blown fuses. Do you guys have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Adrian

had the same issue with mine... my dad took it into the dealer for me and they found out that it was just corroded wire. I would check fuses first but if none are blown trace the wires and look for bad connections.

Heres some more info on diagnosing the speed/cruise control... hope this helps!

https://www.motorcraftservice.com/re...e=EN&viewer=IE

Heres the link to the self test
https://www.motorcraftservice.com/re...e=EN&viewer=IE

I tried this on mine and it did not work... Probably because the wires were corroded and it wasn't getting any power. But if you have something other than that wrong it should be able to let you know by a series of flashes.

Unfortunately the self test only works on the gas engines. To run a switch test on the diesel, you need a powerstroke compatible scanner that is capable of running a switch test. Visually checking the wiring and fuses is a good idea, but you're just hoping to stumble across something.

The problem I had was the clutch pedal position switch, but I'm guessing that's not your issue.

I did not know that. I guess that would explain why it did not work for me...

Is there a way to test the brake sensor rather than going and purchasing one (at this point)? I made sure the the connections were connected and they were.

Check the continuity of the sensor to ground. Then have firmly press the brake pedal. Now it should be grounded. If not the pressure switch is bad.

Well I checked the pressure switch like was suggested and it tested fine. I had a appointment at the local ford dealership yesterday to replace the CPS that was a recall item from a while back and I had them look into the cruise delema and after about 4hrs (they only charged 40.00 for diagnosis thankfully) of looking the determined that it was the ABS sensor under the dash with a ford part number of SC7Z2C219B. I told them I would pass on the replacement since the part was $500 plus 3 hrs of labor and I could probably do the install myself. Do any of you have experince with that specific part? Is there an aftermarket one for less money?

I had the same problem with my cruise not working. No light on dash. I changed the release sensor on the brake bowl and I have cruise now. The cost was 20.00 at ford for the part.

I don't know if that is your problem, but it is a cheap place to start. Take the old one off and install the new. No fluid will come out. It also has a pig tail to connect to the older connection.

Looks like $256.32 and a $100 core at FTEPartsGuy for the Ford OEM part.

Also as I was driving over the weekend I noticed that if I hold down the "on" button of the cruise and then hold downt botton right button which i belive is the "coast" button the horn goes off. does that maybe mean that it is something else or it is just that silly abs ecu box becuase the dealer said it was shorted out.

I discovered that same feature when I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my cruise. The horn goes off on some trucks when you hit those buttons. Nothing wrong with it, and after you fix the cruise, the horn will still work this way. Strange, but considered normal.
