Block heater plug

Read it somewhere in the forum but can't find it now. No block heater plug on my new truck so I guess I better get one before winter.
Read where the dealer is charging $100 for one, but there are alternative sources for the same plug at a fraction of the cost?
Can someone refresh my sometimers memory?

are you sure you don't have it. Most of the trucks were coming with it, just not the cord. Go out to your bumper and see if you have the cord. Mind is tucked in the bumper on the passenger side.

First truck with block heater

My 08 F350 FX4 is my first diesel truck and first truck with a block heater. I kinda thought that when using the block heater, the truck would be instantly warm after firing it up. I guess the purpose is just to keep the block warm enough to keep from freezing, not to assist with the immediate temperature rise.? Is that the case? Thanks

yup, just to keep the oil luke warm for easy starting. Or you could do what my Dad and I did when we lived in Wyoming as a kid. My Dad had a 64 F100, he would build a small fire under the crank case for a few minutes...

Just looked. No plug or wire found for the block heater. I talked to my dealer and they wanted $89 for one. Someone posted that they could get the parts for $25 elsewhere than a dealer?
Also looked under the hood. No venturi tee adaptor installed either.
Wonder what else they didn't do?

Thanks everyone. I looked again under the hood and bumper. It looks like the wiring harness from the engine block to the front frame is there, but no wire/plug in from that point out. I'll be using the "parts guy".
The dealer told me the recall was taken care of (venturi tee). but if I look at the pictures on this site (after mod) and whats on the truck, it ain't the same, so that tells me my dealer probably just took the other dealers word for it, but didn't check themselves. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to show him.
I told the service dept manager I wasn't trying to embarrass or put him on the spot, but when I pay that much for a truck, and can't afford to have my business/play truck down for any length of time, I expect things to work and be fixed correctly.
After putting up with an ex-dealer who wouldn't even bother to go after this truck, I dropped him and found one that would. I don't play games with these people because I don't have a money tree in my yard to pick each day.

have him pull the oasis report, it will show all the recalls and warrenty work that has been done on the truck. Have him show it to you.

Just got back from the dealer. My new service manager is not happy either. The venturi tee was not done, but oasis (other dealer) says it was. Now he's gotta question whether or not the other recall stuff was done.
He's checking with Ford on what to do and who will pay for the stuff not done, and probably get that other dealer in trouble who claimed it was done and was paid.
He said he will have to put my truck on the computer tomorrow to see if the other recall work was really done (PCM, HFCM,etc). I told him I could do the venturi tee stuff, but he said that's their problem and expense.
He said there is also another recall notice out there. I said, you mean this one (re-flash issue). He looked at me weird when I showed him the number and problem I copied from here.
Those pics of the venturi tee mod here was worth a thousand words.
I think from now on they will verify the work when they pick up a vehicle from another dealer!
This site is beyond words to describe!! Appreciate all this info.

There was the seat back recall also, I had mine done back in the spring (don't remember the exact date) but the last time I was at the dealer he ran my vin and said it needed done. I told him it was already done and he said ok. I got a letter from Ford last week telling me I needed to call for an appointment to have it done. Not sure what to do about this one.

hmmm I have a job 3 so that might explain why I don't know about the seat recall.

You could take it in and show them it has been done and then they can just update the system. Or if you have the invoice from when you had it done fax it to them.
