My girlfriend's baby cousin was shaken to death by the babysitter at only 17 months old. What in the hell could be wrong with someone to do this to a baby? This really has me pissed off!
RIP Cheyenne, you will be missed and loved forever.
sorry to hear about your loss, as the answer to your ? why this stuff happens there is no fear of punishment anymore and peoples upbringing has changed over the last 50 years. the worst part of it the baby sitter will probably get a slap on the hand cuzz the sitter will cry insanity or somethin. stuff like this makes me so mad i could spit nails

Exactly... our forgiving courts, manipulative lawyers, and crowded jails. It seems as if no one is ever held accountable for their actions anymore.
I would throw something at her... and it wouldn't be "the book".
This babysitter even has kids and grandkids of her own.
No one will love your own baby as much as you do and when you place them into someone else's hands, especially with this evil generation, you are playing with fire. I would guess the baby sitter was under 21, but, baby shaking is not limited to just baby sitters, parents do it too.
> What in the hell could be wrong with someone
The bigger question is what is wrong with a person, once they notice the baby is hurt or they have violently shaken it, they do not immediately call 911 and save the baby's life?
After someone has violently shaken a baby, they know they have done bad, then they sit around and do nothing when many of these shaken babies can be saved with immediate medical help. Many times by the time they get it, they are seriously brain damaged from the swelling.
That right there is the real crime for me, not the moment of passion and violence, the hours of not caring, that would want me to light them up in sparky.
Some people can't handle babies...period. They are abnormal, and do not react correctly to screaming fussy infants, or to infants just acting like infants. After the incident I am sure the babysitter was seriously distraught and confused to the point of insanity.
These cases are better to be judged by God than the mob.
Mind what u say, because the babysitter could have been ur son or daughter too. It is a terrible tragedy, way beyond most peoples comprehension.
Thanks to all who have replied, it really means a lot. The parents didn't have any life insurance on the baby, so the family (including me) is doing all we can to help her. I've heard that the funeral home has sold them a cemetery plot for very cheap and donated the casket, which I think was really nice of them.

Actually late 40's and has kids and grandkids of her own. This poor child received injuries so severe that even instant medical attention would have done little to save her.
Man, sorry, I gotta go for now... this whole deal makes me sick.
I just seen this post and I am very sorry for the loss. You and the family are in our prayers. Sending out our condolence. I have 3 children now and one on the way any day and when the kids would cry I would have dad or my mom take the child so I could calm myself from all the crying. I can not see how people in this world gets away with harming a baby or a child, some just get a slap on the wrist. What they need is what they do to a child do to them to see how they like it. But that is my option.
Thanks Melissa, and congrats on your soon-to-be new baby! I have twins (boy and girl) and we are expecting another baby boy in early April. What's sad is that Cheyenne passed away on Saturday, the same day as our kids' 2nd Birthday party. I get sad when my kids bite there tongue or stub their toe... I could not imagine being without one of them.
That's terrible! My heart goes out to the entire family.
When you hear about a tragedy like this, most folks wonder how on earth someone could so such a thing. When I hear a story like this, I remember an experience that I had some 18 years ago:
My wife went back to work when our daughter was about 2 months old. This was my first extended period alone with the baby. After about an hour, she started crying. She cried and wailed despite anything I could do. After about 4 hours, it hit me just how easily tragedies like the one mentioned here can happen. That noise just HAS to stop! Of course I didn't do anything bad to my daughter, but right then I saw fully just how razor thin the line could be and how easily it could be crossed. I called my mother to help me out and 5 minutes after her arrival the baby was back to her smiling self. I thank God that today I can tease her about it.
If only the babysitter had picked up the phone...
I just saw this post, but I heard about this when it happened, as it happened less than 20 minutes from my own home......I was terribly upset about it when I heard it on the radio, read it in the paper, and seen it on the internet......to have an association with the baby here makes it even more personal, and it brings about further sadness......
I have been praying for the little girl and her family the entire time, but I will especially pray for you and your girlfriend as well.....
