I bought a truck and now I am in the midst of doing a rebuild. I would like to know what the casting numbers on the block mean. The truck is a 1984 F150, 351W, C6 transmission.
The casting # is:
E3AE-6015-BA22
Then there was a little stamp above that number:
4B14
I want to know what this block is all about, so I thank you in advance for all the information...
I had an 351w built for my 82' F150 and the casting number is the same (E3AE-6015-BA22). It would be helpfull when buying parts to know where my engine came from. I'd like to know what the additional numbers and letters in the code stand for.
At the top of this forum there's a sticky entitled, "Read First: Casting number id and general info links - Updated 6-10-06"
In there you will find the answers to these questions, and more!
Unfortunately, the casting number doesn't show what vehicle the engine actually came from or even what size the engine is, but more what car line it was originally designed for. For example, the letter A in the 3rd position of the casting number tells us the engine block was originally designed for the Galaxie, but that doesn't mean that every block withe letter A was actually installed in a Galaxie.
The little number, in this case 4B14, is the date code, which is the day the block was actually cast. As you can see from the chart in the link, that breaks down as Feb. 14 1984.
Hope this helps a bit.
