I dont know about sounding different. Have you noticed surging (for lack of a better word) when you hit the gas? I switched to biodiesel not too long ago and my filter was pretty clogged and it felt almost like it was losing power. It never hurts to replace it anyways. Whens the last time it was changed?

A "dirty" fuel filter will make you lose power at the "top end" when you are calling for more fuel.

It may be cps related Steve. Those things are sometimes fickle.

i noticed a "lack of power" while on the highway last week. no problem with cruisin city streets, but at higher speeds on the highway. haven't changed air filter in a year and fuel filter in 16,000 miles. changed my fuel filter and air filter friday nite and "whooooow" what a beautiful thing. i guess the gradual decrease in power wasn't noticeable over time but the instant increase with the new filters was awsome. like the truck was new again. the power came right away. fell in love all over again.
