Good....or Bad?

ok i have a 94 f-150 4x4, with the 300. Now i have been reading around and people seem to have mixed opinions about having no cats. I am working on my exhuast tomarrow and i want to cut right before the cats and go to straight pipe infront of the right rear tire. Now is that going to hurt my performance? Or will it run better? what are the pros and cons?thanks

Less back pressure shouldn't hurt you, but is this something you are going to put on the road? Do you have to pass the "big brother "emissions stuff?

yea its my daily driver. and no i dont have to go through any of the emissions. right now the exhuast is cut right behind the cat, and it rattles. so i figured it would sound a little better and look nice. but i dont want to bogg down when i go to get on it or just every day driving.

A 300 with no cats and no muffler is gonna be OBNOXIOUSLY loud. For use on the road, I'd either cut the cats and leave the muffler, or leave at least the front cat if you're insistent on using a straight pipe. I've lost my cats...well, they mostly lost themselves. I just helped them off in the end after the headpipes broke off right in front of the first cat (talk about obnoxious...couldn't hear myself think!) So I made myself a y-pipe, and now I use a Flowmaster 40 muffler. IMO, it's on the borderline of being too loud (but I'm approaching middle age, so take that with a grain of salt).

I don't think you'd notice a difference in performance one way or the other. And emissions legalities notwithstanding, I'll bet you'll catch the attention of a lawman somewhere if you go completely with straight pipe!

PatsPOS is correct, you will be able to hear it okay! You might just run pipe back after the cat. I ran my 78 with a 400 like that for years! It sounded like a truck but didn't give you a headache after an hour trip!

I drove my truck (79 300) with open headers across town to the exhaust shop, and it hurt my ears so bad that I couldn't go over 20 mph. Somehow the sound resonated in the cab!
