Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have a 63' F100 with manual drum brakes and I would like to convert the front to disc. My question... can you take the disc brakes off of a 1978 ford and replace the drums or is there another way? Please Help!
Several places sell kits. The straight axle conversions are a little more problematic. There is another threadhttps://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...1-f-100-a.html that basically asks the same question. Do a few searches in this forum and you will find several goo threads covering the subject.
I think the 65 and later IFS conversion is a straight spindle swap, but I don't think there has ever been anything as convenient found for the straight axle.
The basic kits are really nothing more than 2 brackets and bolts. If you get the calipers, rotors, lines, master cylinder, and proportioning valve from the junk yard, you can save a lot of $. And if you didn't read the other thread - ECI and a few others listed make them and LLC and the like resale them at way higher prices.
I used the ECI brackets, and picked up the rest of the parts on my own and came in WAY under 500$. Around $200+ maybe even? The increased stopping power was well worth the investment.
how about the 03 -07 crown vic front suspension swap that car crafter did on his 70s truck . isnt the frame from the 64 and the 66 (up to 78 ) the same ?
the cv front end swap seemed fairly easy besides finding a donor . the cv front end comes with disc brakes , rack and pinion and alumimin componets . (i have been away for awhile and dont really know how cc liked it when finished ) thanks rg

No. 61-63 F100. 65-66 (and up) F100. 64 Is an oddball I think, maybe just the cab mounts though.
your best bet is to find a doner truck,73 and upto 79.You may change out the entire front-end from the doner truck and bolt it under your 60's something or just do a total frame/front-end change out. Put your body ect on the 70's frame leaving the disc brake front end /suspension and all in place. You still need to figure out steering and such. At any rate my 65 long bed is getting power steering, disc brakes/429 w/c-6 and I feel it is an easy change out.If you have a unibody I've never completed one of those.......good luck
So in other words it will be more work than I want to do. I'm still a little confused as to whether or not I can take the front end out of the 78' and just do a swap with my 63'?

No, you can't. Unless you plan on cutting the front the the '78 frame and grafting it onto the '63. A direct bolt-on swap is not possible.
Welcome to the FTE world....a wealth of info, and opinions.
I went thru the same process with a 61 Merc uni, sitting on a 63 F100 frame. After all the searching, reading, and good advice/opinions, I went with the CCP ( classic performance products) caliper brackets, and rotors. These supplied rotors mount onto the original drum spindles. I then junk yarded the calipers, lines, bought new pads and it's all good.
The only thing more important than going FAST.......is being able to stop FAST.
A very worth while project, and fairly cheap.
