I have an older Tekonsha brake controller in my 1999 F350 which I really don't care for-it does not have a manual activation ****-I have forgotten the name of this particular controller.
My question is can I install the later ('05-'07??) factory brake controller into my cubby hole in the dash where it seems to be installed in the later trucks?? where can I get the later factory controller?? Thanks!
I believe, but don't quote me as gospel, the newer Tow Command integrated brake controllers on the '05 and newer trucks cannot be converted into our trucks. It hard wires into the brake and the PCM systems of the truck. Not to mention that the faceplate will not fit into the cubby of the '04 and older trucks. Ford redesigned the dash cubby in '05 for the upfitters and tow command system. Your best option is to purchase a quality aftermarket brake controller and mount it into the current cubby of your truck.
nope as the integrated controller actually ties into the bcm and even the mastercylinder. You can get another brake controller that has the manual activation for a lot cheaper than the factory system
Chris is right. The factory brake controllers look at inputs from the engine computer (PCM), Anti-lock brakes (ABS), actual brake pedal position AND brake pressure, as well as a few others to decide how much proportional braking to apply to the trailer brakes. It's a very ingenious system, but unfortunately, our trucks do not have the hardware or software to control one.
I had the Tekonsha Voyager and it was a nice controller but I had to fool with it a lot. I upgraded it to the Prodigy and was so impressed I bought two.
