So, my 99 superduty is just killing me lately, I have had it for a year and put 35k miles on it, but have had to redo the calipers, which am pretty sure are going again, replace the alternator, then the starter, plus the cruise control is not working, and finally the u joints blew out on me, and now i can't get the 4wd to engage, oh and i replaced the hubs (i have the manual ones, didn't do my homework on that one) which broke with the warn premium but for some reason when i lock the hubs it does not lock the wheels down, i can see the transfer case turn, and the u-joints turn but something is not locking into place to make the wheels turn, could they have messed up on putting my ujoints on? starting to snow and i can't get out of the driveway, getting just a little frustrated. what am i doing wrong? this is a work truck and i haul a ton of heavy material, but i thought these trucks were designed for that? any help with the 4wd would be greatly appreciated.
Im guessing its the electronic shift on the dash? If you lock your hubs the driveline will spin with wheels, so it might be the transfer case not shifting. maybe try unlocking the hubs, put it in 4wd and see if the driveline will turn with your hand, if it does your transfer case shift motor is probly shot. And with the truck turned off, key on, you should hear the shift motor lock in and out when turning the ****.
i initially installed them, but when they repaired the u joints the mechanic put them back, i was thinking that too, given my lack of knowledge i did not know if there was something between the hub and the u joint that could cause the problem. i talked to the warn rep and he basically said installing the hubs are fool proof, but then again, you never know, i think i am going to pull them off and try again.
if the transfer case is busted, what am i looking at with repair cost? can i do this myself? is there any way they reinstalled the axles wrong when they preplaced my u joints?
turns out the when i pulled the driver side hub off it was in two pieces, the ring on the back of the hub had popped off so that it would not engage, go figure. thanks for all the help and i am glad i don't have to replace the transfer case.
