Is the tuner programming flexible enough to combine performance, heavy towing and some economy with safety in one tune?
I am a set it and forget it kinda driver? I like performance when I am empty and safety and power when towing.
Thanks,
Lusty
Lusty. You will have more then one tune with the DP. You can have 16 different tunes if you want. Its a push of a button to change from one tune to another. Look at my sig and you will see all the tunes I have on my DP. I can switch to which ever one I want while driving down the road. DP-TUNER

Depends on what you tow, and how much power you want to have while empty. I know people that just use the 40 tow setting all the time.
That is great. I am learning all the time. I have looked on DP's page, but asking others gets you further. I tow 20k lbs once per week about 40 miles. It's not flat, so the long hills are what I am trying to be careful with. I like the power of the Superchips set all the way up, but I don't think the truck sounds like it runs as smooth. Shift on the fly would bge awesome. If you set the DP at 80, what's the torque and can you tow that much in this setting? EGT's.
Your best bet is a call in to DP. My experience with DP started last night. Basically there are econo tunes and tow tunes...econo tunes have lower rpm shift points and different boost curves. The tow tunes downshift sooner and hold gears longer. I'd say as long as your egt temps are reasonable you can tow in any tune you want. I think the recomended tune for towing over 13k is the 20HP tow. There is a 60HP tow... not sure on the 80 HP, I'd have to look at his site. Call them up and talk over your needs, they have your tune....
You answered your own question. Depends on the EGT's. I ran the superchip for 4 years, but I changed the tuneing depending on what I was towing. The superchip in the performance setting could hurt your trans. Have you ever had your O/D button light flash on you.
Get a couple towing tunes. The best thing to do is to call Jody and he will answer all your questions. He will advise you what would best for your truck.
Will Do!
Thanks for the advice. Sounds like what they offer is specific to you and how you use your rig. So a pat answer(what i thought I needed) just won't fit.

As far as "flexibility" of a tune, that does depend on mods that are on the truck. Certain injector/turbo combinations, big oil, and other factors will play a role into how the truck behaves and how the EGT's climb when using various settings.
Also it is easier to control EGT's with a manual than it is an automatic.

Nah....just downshift to 3rd and hold her at 3200.
