Intake mod

Just an idea for y'all to comment on ...

Thought of pulling the air filter and can off my 6.9 ... replace that with the pressure chamber from a Sidewinder turbo and then routing the intake where ever I want it ... Maybe straight up and into a scoop ... Would make a lot more room under the hood ... Maybe even cobble up a "Y" and use 2 intake locations ... Twin mini scoops? ...

The piston to head clearance is the thickness of the head gasket in an IDI.

It don't take much water/fluid to hydrolock the engine.

I run a ram air scoop, but it is locared below the top of the engine so water can not drain in running or not.

Yes that is a turbo air cleaner, but notice the stock 86 black plastic air duct right before it.
That scoop was originally attached to my stock air cleaner snorkel.

You could do it like that...or with a carb bonnet.

A lot of carb guys do something like that so they can run a cone filter in the fenderwell or wherever.

Hey Dave do you ever have a problem driving in the rain? My truck has the filter setup same as you, Got the idea actually from you. Never drove in the rain. I really am afraid of water getting into the engine. Could I possibly put a cone filter between the core support and the grill so it will soak up the water so it dont go into the intake?

I have no problems with rain, even driving 70 MPH in a downpour.

From the intake scoop, there is about 20" vertical up to the air cleaner intake.
Any rain seems to not make it into the filter housing, I have looked for water inside after driving in the rain and it was bone dry.

But I do have problems with snow.

When I am driving in falling or blowing snow, I just unhook the scoop from the air cleaner.
When I found out about this I was plowing snow, the engine kept loosing power till it died.

Pulled the filter out, it had about a 1/2" coat of ice all across it.
We won't talk about what it looked like with the turbo sucking on it while covered with ice, but it was not nice.
