Injector cups?

Well I have the heads at the machine shop, they said they are no good cause the injector cups are cracked?? Is this normal??? Never heard of it. So I pulled the set of heads off the other motor I have hoping they are good, and I looked at the cups, and one looks kinda like it has a crack, but it also just looks like its a little mark in the cup?? What to do. I may be screwed if none of these heads are good???

Thanks.

I don't completely understand, the injector cups are a replaceable unit. You do have to have a special tool to remove and replace them .

Is the machine shop telling you that the heads are junk just because of the cracked cup (s) or did the cracked cup (s) do further damage to the head???

Thumbs up

Here is the only tool you should ever use for 7.3 diesel injector cup sleeve removal and replacement. Seriously. from Whitaker Tools. Saves about 20 hours on each job.

Video demo available at their website. Injector Sleeve Puller | Ford 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel Engine Tools | Whitaker Tools, Inc. and you can use code 1007 for a discount.

Those are nice tools for sure, but there's something about 1/2 the cost that will be available shortly, using similar proven technique.
