For the past several months it sounded like my horn was working on half power. Didn't bother me too much until the snowbirds moved back into town and started hogging the fast lane. May as well have been squeezing the air horn on my sisters bicycle at 80 mph.
Anyway, the horn stopped working altogether now so I think it's time to replace the thing. I checked all fuses and they seem fine. I tried locating the horn but to no avail.
Anybody know where the horn is located on 2001 Ford Lariat F250 7.3L superduty? Removal procedures and installation instructions with pics (if possible) would be an added bonus.
Thanks
The horn is in the passenger front fender. If I remember right, just drop the wheel well liner and remove the mounting bolt from the under hood side of the fender.
Can anybody recommend a good replacement horn for this vehicle. I'd like to go with something similar to factory installation for easy swap-out. I'd like to purchase a new horn before I remove original but can't seem to find a part number anywhere.
Any info much appreciated.
Thanks
My son put in one that I bought at O'Reillys but I don't remember the name. It was red plastic and maybe something about a train horn.... Doesn't sound too bad. Certainly gets my attention. Had to jerryrig it to fasten into the bracket and connect to the wiring. Didn't price a factory replacement.
I think Fiamm makes a direct replacement horn that will bolt right in to the fender. The horn isn't much fun to get at. I seem to remember removing the battery to get to the bolt but I'm not sure. You may be better to remove the horn first and then take it with you to the parts store. That way you can match it up.
get some trainhorns and not have to worry about not being heard.
OK,
Well, I installed some train horns and had the wife under the truck to see if they worked after the installation. Scared the $#%* out of her and me.
Good call TP83
PS,
Took some jimmy-rigging to install the horns but it went smooth. You guys were right; the factory horn on my truck was located under the liner in the wheel well of the passenger side. Found it easier to install by removing the wheel and peeling back the liner.

That's got to be a memory you'll (maybe not her) laugh about for a while
Where did you get the horns, and how much did they cost, if you don't mind me asking? Were they electric or air operated?
