Changing out horns

Might sound a bit odd, but I need to change my horn (current horn is not loud enough, I work in the woods following large diesel trucks and if something happens I need to get them to stop with the horn and they never hear it)

I'm just wondering, I want to order these

Hella Supertone Horn - JCWhitney

It says 118 dB, which sounds loud enough to me. Can I just take off the stock one and re-wire this one and be good to go? Never done this before. It includes a relay which I don't understand why unless you're adding another button of some sort for extra horns. I just want to use the same stock location of the horn. Thanks

Id say your right that the only reason for the extra relay would be if you were using it as an extra horn with a button.

Another option is to go to the junkyard and get a set of horns off an older Cadillac. They have 4 horns that are loud and sound really neat. My dads Chevy had a horn that sounded like a riceburner so I swapped it for the Caddy horns and it really sounds good now.

Here is what they sound like

If I recall correctly the horn should be protected by a 20 Amp fuse. If the Hella's pull more than that you may need a bigger alternator. LOL

I have installed a couple sets of HELLA Supertones. On my WRX I didn't use relay and just tapped into the stock wiring and it works great. On another vehicle I did use the relay and haven't noticed any difference. I will say that they are loud, but very directional as you would expect. I would put them right behind the grille so they are blasting straight out. They will definitely get the attention of someone in front of them.
