Has anyone switched from Amsoil to Schaeffers
A friend of mine bought a 02 F250 about two weeks ago. The PO bought the truck new and has ran amsoil since the first oil change. I'm trying to save him some $ by switching to schaeffers 9000. The price he got for the amsoil was over 30 bucks a gal! He is interested in switching. I was wondering who has ran both amsoil and schaeffers, and what are your opinions. Thanks

I have ran both. I was a big Amsoil user in the past. Using it in my Harley & cars and it worked well. But when I used it in my 7.3L I didn't get better wear results on my oil analysis reports. I had better iron wear with Delo 400 and Schaeffers. I'll find the link to where I did my comparison oil analysis reports.
FWIW so did Pete (F250_).

Wow. Are you kidding me? I had not realized the Rotella Syn had gone that crazy. What is the Schaeffer going for?

22.00 bucks here for Rotella syn, not paying that. Another member on here from Tenn. Jlrc** sorry i can't remember all his screen name JDecker knows him, that sells Shaeffers told me about a dealer up here and i called him and he told me 21.65 a gallon and i told this dealer thats not much of a deal, i could stay with Rotella and he dropped the price to 17.69 i think a gallon. Anyways, ordered 10 gallons of the 9000 with some other customers, getting it in a week or so...

Thanks, Rich...
... Yes, I ran both. To keep everything in perspective, I ran only one oil change on the Amsoil DEO 5w40, and am nearing the point of making my third consecutive run with the Schaeffers 9000 5w40. All four runs have been in the neighborhood of 12-13K miles, and each was run with my OilGuard bypass system installed and operating. Furthermore, I have changed both the full-flow AND bypass filter elements at EACH oil change just to make sure I got apples-to-apples comparisons.
Here's my simplified observation. The engine ran fine on both oils (Amsoil DEO and Schaeffers 9000), but the engine has a smoother, more steady, and almost more powerful tone to it with the Schaeffers.
The bottom line for me, though, is the fact that I'm getting better wear metal values from the Schaeffers, and that change was immediately noticeable on the first run with the Schaeffer oil. The other thing about the wear metal values, both oils were tested by Blackstone Labs which does not have a dog in the fight, so to speak, for either oil brand.
