87 Start-up issues

Alright, I am rather new to all of this so here is goes.

I have an 87 Bronco II. Love it. I have began to have a problem when I start it up. No matter if it is cold or hot doesn't matter. When I crank the engine it starts right up every time. Thats when the problem begins. It sputters, dies, runs rough and will not stay running with out pressing the accelerator. I can normally keep it running but pushing the accelerator. Once it begins to warm up to keep it running I have held the accelerator with some pressure trying to keep it around 2500 rpms. Just will not stay there. Gets there... Sputters out and then catches itself back up for a brief moment then falls back to around 750 rpms. I am puzzled by this but it gets better. I can put it in drive and it runs perfect until i get to a stop light or have to stop and it will sometimes go back in the described above habit but not always. I have replaced the TPS and cleaned out and tested the IAC. Changed my plugs and plug wires. I don't think I have a check engine light on the vehicle not sure though so I can't pull a code off of that. I just don't know where to go next. Thanks for your help in advance.

Ford didn't put a CEL in the '87's, so you have to pull codes to find out if the computer can see anything. That's the first thing I'd do.
