Electrical Problem

I am in the military and left my '87 Bronco II to sit for seven months. Came back after deployment and found my battery dead and a tire flat... Pretty much what I expected..

But anyway I tried to jump the battery and was successful but i didnt have the means of fixing the tire that night so I simply let it run a little while then I shut it off and waited for another night. Came back the next day and I had to jump it again and once again got it to start. Shut it off again and then the battery went completely dead. no dome light no inigition chime nothing. Purchased a new battery to find out that the previous owner (according to autozone) installed the incorrect battery and I was using a larger battery than required. Went back to the truck with new battery in hand and once again nothing, no dome light no ingition chime. So im thinking it could be some type of relay or bus under the hood that could possibly be corrupting the circuit and not allowing any power from the battery.

just wanted to get some inpots on what i should look at and what I should look for in particular to get the vehicle running again... Thanks

Look at the fussable links, if you can stretch them or look burnt, inner wire burnt right through and showing, that would be the problem.

Looks like you're looking for a 14gauge green fuse link right at the starter relay or a 16gauge black fuse link further down the line.

To locate the black link follow the black/orange off the green fuse link until you come to it. You will find two black fuse links at that point, a 18gauge fuse link with a yellow wire leading off it. I think they are further back on the fender but may be under the dash.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd have to say it'd be the green one is your problem.

Keep in mind a fuse link can look and feel good and still be bad, they can and do corrode at the end where put together, test for continuity to verify its good if it "looks" "feels" OK.

Also Make sure you're connectors (the rings that slip over the battery terminals) didn't over corode from sitting and then repeated jumping. I've seen it happen.

I agree it is probably the fusible links from the jumping.

Having a bigger battery in there is not a problem, fwiw.
