I've only Limited access to the Net these days 'cuse of the above reason, so I've no access to my e-mail regularly & have problems logging in on a lot of sites when I'm able to get Net access. Wife's bleedin' Lap Top keeps giving me a DNS errors, Detect Network Setting.

DNS is an acronym for Do Not Say. With over 3000 posts, your network provider may have put a governor on your bandwidth. Tell the Captain that you’re given her all she’s got and you can’t give her no more!

Just joking; hope your HD makes a full recovery and that you will be at warp speed soon.
Just went through the same exercise. The monitor went out on my laptop. It was eight years old and I expected something to happen any time. While I didn't lose any data, I couldn't access it with out adding an external monitor. I decided to buy a new computer instead as I had installed a large USB external hard drive earlier and had all of my files backed up on it. I still need to have my laptop repaired as I have a lot of software on it that I can't replace without a large cost. Most all of the new computers have Windows Vista installed and a lot of the older software is not compatable. I have Windows XP on my laptop. I tried to install AutoCad 2002 on my new computer but it wouldn't even recognize the program. I may get rid of Vista and go back to the older OS.
[off topic]AutoCAD 2002? Wow. I have not heard of that version in a long time. We are using AutoCAD 2009, Architecture 2009, and Inventor 2009 at work. We actually have close to 20 titles, but only use those 3 most of the time.
2000 won't run on XP even. It was 98 based. I can't recall when they switched to XP based (been too many years). The current releases of AutoDesk softwares run on XP fine, but it is supposed to run on vista as well. [/topic]
Col: Did you lose many important files? The I.T. guys at work pulled all my files off my old laptop when the hard drive crashed. I just stuck it on the replacement drive when I installed it.
They can usually recover just about everything, if you need it. It would cost some out there though. I can get away with them working on mine because I use the laptop at work.
That was a few years ago. I have a lot newer laptop now. The old one was not nearly powerful enough.
Yes, I know AutoCAD 2002 is outdated but I retired in 2002 and it was on my laptop. I only use it for personal use now. I was running Release 14, Professional Suite on XP and prior to that on 98. Just can't justify the cost of the current software for my hobby. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.
Col., As stated, any important data should be retrievable. Whe have a shop called "Mr. Notebook" here in San Antonio that I am going to take my laptop to for repair. Hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg.
Good to hear from you Ol' Boy. Bummer about the computer problems. Find someone good and they should be able to retrieve all your data. It'd be a shame to lose truck data and pics.
Now, now we've had Lively Discussions I believe in the past, not arguments.
Okay, discussions then! See, I'm not so hard to get along with! Either way we need you here for those pesky refrigerator questions? We'll be glad to see you back full time...salute!
