icp problems (p2285)
i have 04 f250 and truck died and would start then die....got p2285 code and changed the icp....truck then ran for about 25 miles then died....replaced the pigtail and got the same code 2285...now truck will not start.....helppppppppp
The possibilities at this point are the wiring going to the ICP, or the HPOP has developed a leak inside the engine, or the IPR is not regulating the pressure to where is needs to be to fire the injectors. Unless you have a way for testing these things you may have to take it to a dealer to have them diagnose it.
I did alittle more research and one thing you can do is to clear the code and then turn the key on without starting the engine and allow the pcm to do a self test. If the code returns then it is most likely the wiring harness, or the ICP sensor, or the PCM itself.
let me back up....when it first died and i changed the icp sensor i then put 5 gallons of fuel cause it was low...it then started...this time after i said it acted like it wasnt getting fuel i then put in 5 more gallons and it started up and the code cleared it self out

So is the truck running now? If not and you do not get a code when the key is on, but not started, then those possibilities of the HPOP, or the IPR, or wiring harness should be looked at.
yes the truck is running and i am not getting a code.....this is exactly what it did the first time....both times i have be getting 2285 code and after putting fuel in it decides to crank and does not have a code

I do not believe putting fuel in it has anything to do with the code you are getting. The P2285 is high oil pressure problem going to the injectors. This problem can show up when the engine is hot and shut down and go back right away to start it. Then after awhile after the engine cools down the oil thickens it will start. This can be cause by a small crack in the high oil pressure system.
I have the same code and my truck still runs fine. I just purchased the Haynes manual in hopes of getting a picture or at least a better discription of the location of this sensor. Other posts put it behind and below the turbo housing on the drivers side with a silver conector. I can only find a black 2 wire connector and not the silver 3 wire conector as indicated. I can not find anyone other than the dealer that has the sensor or the harness and they want about $300 for the set. I removed the coolant tank on top of the motor for a better look but can not see or feel any other conectors or sensors in this location. There is a harness there for the injectors but even after moving it, there is no other items hidden. I have an early production 2003 6.0.

My local dealer quoted me $1000 the change out this sensor, fat chance. I ordered the factory Ford sensor and pigtail off Ebay for about $130 and will be changing it myself. If I can drop a 5.7 Hemi into my Javelin, I think I can swap out a simple sensor for an $870 savings. I know the dealers are hurting but at probably 3 hrs max work, that's almost $300 an hour.
Well it took about 2 hours and only $130 in parts. My original conector was full of oil and I wouldn't even think of swaping this part without a new conector after seeing this. My truck was still running decent so the sensor was just shorted out by the oil, most likely. My sensor is below and behind the 2 wire sensor about 2" away. It was mounted sideways with the threads pointing towards the passenger side. It was completly hidden by 2 layers of heat wrap shielding so even with a flash light and a mirror, it still wasn't visable. I had to unplug both conectors to even see it. I was able to unscrew it with a 1- 1/16" crows foot. My 1-1/16 deep socket was 3/4" drive and had no hope of fitting the rachet in that tight space. I did have to remove the coolant resivour, computor and mounting bracket, the grounding stud at the back and the connector on the last injector( I think) to be able to reach this part. Not that bad overall and I saved $870 over dealer cost.
