I don't know man, i did google 4l60e and only got chevy stuff, I'm positive chrysler never used it, might have a totally different tranny called something similar though.
Did I hear someone bashing Clevelands? and 400's? and Ford transmissions? Are you forgetting what site you're on?
Building a Chevy 383 takes some machining of the block to clear the larger throw of the 400 crank. You can drop a Ford 400 crank into a 351m with zero machining and that = zero added cost. Part for part both are popular engines and have performance/rebuild parts readily availible at a similar cost.
Look at the engine masters challenge, a lot of those guys are running extremely Clevelandized engines that put up huge numbers on the dyno.
I'll take my 400 and stupid one of two (yeah I said two, only two out there for a 400) transmissions over a one size fits all Chevy anyday .
BTW I believe that the Dodge trans in question is something like a 47re or a 46re, or something along those lines. I'd look it up but it's bedtime.
no i understand that, i love my cars and trucks and put them above friends and such, but in the end its just a truck and you shouldnt have to get all wound up over some chevy or dodge fanboy, they usually have never owned your vehicle and just bias there opinions.
I just read through this thread and I think I agree with this one the most. Honestly, anyone who wants you to take time out of your day and bash you over something as simple as a brand name, has way too much free time on their hands. You want a good comeback? Tell them to get a job.
I'm a die hard Ford fan, don't get me wrong. Brand loyalty is human nature. There's an exhange of loyalty between you and your truck. One likes to feel that if you are true to it, it will be true to you. And it works out. A truck is like a friend. But honestly, any brand has its share of pros and cons. I'd say it about evens out in the end. Sure, I think it's kind of a hassle that there are so many motor mount and bellhousing issues with Fords. But I also think it's dumb that the distributor is in the back on a Chevy. If Ford puts the alternator on one side, Chevy puts it on the other.
Honestly I think it mostly has to do with whatever your dad always had.
Yes, 383 is a Mopar motor. BUT, a popular build for Chebby guys is a 350 shortblock and turned into a 383 stroker. My cousin has one. So yes, a GM motor can become a 383. I couldn't tell you how it runs though, because the engine has been sitting on a stand in his basement since it was built. He built it for a truck that he never finished and eventually parted out.
I also had a buddy in high school that had a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner with a 383 and a 4spd. Yea, I'm a Ford guy, but you have to love Mopar Muscle Cars. That car was sweet! He let me take it to the prom one year! Last I heard, he's got the rebuild on that car almost complete.
The 383 -440 dodge trucks used to cause some problems for me when I used to street and sand race my truck back in the 80s, BUT you sure don't see many dodges of that vintage around anymore.
Saw 2 dentsides on the way home from work today.
Durabilty?? FORD all the way.

i can tell you those motors are pretty beastly for what they are, friends got one in a 63 comet on juice putting out 700 horses, he hasnt done a 1/4 mile because he just got his trans brake and such. they also make gobs of torque as ive been told.
