I have a 89 f150 with a ugle yellow dome light. Im I the only one who hates these lights? I was wondering could it be dirty or do they all look like this? Has anybody ever changed it for another light?
Mine lens was all covered with smoke from the previous owner. I took it off and cleaned it in and out with greased lightning, and it is actually nice and white again.
Mine is the one in the upper left corner. My dad had the same one in his '89. I remember his being not quite bright white, but more of a cream color. I feel that my dome light is dim as well. Taking the cover off will help, but it will look bad. I wish somebody made a crystal clear cover.
mine broke, and i replaced it with a light out of a ford taurus, which is the newer style light in the 94ish to the 97 model trucks. try the search and type in dome light upgrade...
i have the large center light with the two map lights, mine was the same way, i went to auto zone and bought the motormite replacment. it has been brilliant for about 6 or 7 years now.

I can't believe they used that old dim 80s style light in our trucks. I changed mine to the a newer style light out a the rear of a superduty crew cab. The regular cab makes the light angle up slightly. The lense for the map lights is different and helps angle the beam down. If you have an extended cab then it doesn't matter and the regular newer dome light will work just fine. The lense is the only different part, the rest of the light is the same. I think they started using the newer light in 96 but it was black. The one I found is gray. I think NPD or LMC sells new ones. You can get one on ebay for about 20 bucks.
I know the gray is slightly off, but the camera flash makes it look worse. In the regular light it looks perfect.
I have a 94 F250 extra cab and used a dome light from a 2004 mustang and a rear view mirror with map lights out of a newer Chevy Lumina dome light fit in original holes. Cost $7.00 plus $2.00 to get into the junk yard.
