I am going tomorrow to look at a 1979 F250 4x4.400,C6,205.pretty solid looking truck.the guy emailed me about the jeep I have for sale.wanting a trade.I was asking 3800 for the jeep but willing to take right around the 3 grand range.he emailed me some pictures of it.looks straight and solid.had the box x-memebers replaced.brand new carb and dual exhaust.36 inch goodyears.couple of the pictures he sent had the box of to replace the rear hangers.frame looks nice, specially for a truck that came from here originally.with any luck I will be the very proud new owner of a 79 F250 tomorrow by lunch time.I do have a question that I think I already know the answer to,was it only the F350 in 79 that had the dana 60 up front?should the truck have a 44 up front and 60 in the rear?
SOME F250's had a D 60 in the front, but it's rare. The SnowFighter package in 250 had the Dana 60.
Yes, 4x4 F350's had them standard.
It's most likely the truck you're getting will have a Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear. Though a dual Dana 60 set up is the Holy Grail of drive trains for these trucks, don't be discouraged by the Dana 44. It's still a real strong front end. Though, the 36" tires might start to push the 44 to the limits. Watch that.
thanks jolly green thats what I was thinking.the 36s will be comming of in favor of probably 33 or something around that size.I have had good luck with the 44's I wouldn't ever call them a bad one.all I plan on doing with the truck is changing tires, tune up and undercoating it before driving it for the winter.and then in the spring decide what direction to go in from there.when I bought my 2x4 f100 I had all intentions in making a 4x4 out of it,but didn't want to cut up a nice clean original truck.so if all goes well I'll have my 4x4 too as of tomorrow.
I wouldn't sweat the 36s. If those axles have 4.10s in them like my F250 did, then you won't have a problem. I had 36" TSL Swampers and never had one inkling of a problem - took her through the mud and sand too.
I picked up a 78 snowfighter just for the dana 60 front for another truck i'm building. Wasn't much good for anything else though. If your not interested in the 79 i might take a look as i'm not far from you.
well texas I'm not worried about the 36's hurting anything, but I am going to use this truck as a daily driver and I'm not the tallest guy in the world so I want it slightly closer to the ground.makes things easier on a fella.and glenn if I don't get the truck I'll give you the guys name and number, but I'm pretty sure as long as its as good in person as it is in the pictures I'll be taking it home.I'm leaving in about 15 minutes to go look at it so I'll post this afternoon and tell you guys how it looks.
well guys I went and looked at it,reminds me off the first one of these trucks I ever bought WELL USED.haha. the box that was pretty good turned to rough in my 2 hour drive and the little crack in the frame turned into a much larger crack.the bad rubbers in the cab mounts turned into the cab mount crossmember being rotten out under the mounts.the good, the cab and clip is very nice, seemingly good running 400/351m engine,no idea of which it is.the frame other then the crack by the tranny crossmember is very nice, and the crack would be an easy fix as would the cab mounts.the box looks straight just rough underneath and in the tailgate area.would make a nice truck without too much work, but I will have to think about it for sure.and he has to find the papers and door tag for it,I had intentions on getting the vin and seeing what the decoder had to say.no such luck.oh jolly green it does have the 44 up front, and the tires are goodyear 36 inch military tires that are just about ready for someones weekend pounder.glenn if you are in my area you may know where I can get my hands on a decent 1973 to 1979 1/2 or 3/4 ton 4x4 in case this deal falls through.
hey northeaster,i know where there's a few projects around but no good drivers.there's a f-150 on kijiji tonite for $500 with a 460 and 35's.can't get much for $500.i think i saw the truck you described on kijiji a few weeks ago. was it blue?
yes its alot for a truck with a cracked frame, but its hard to find one around here thats any good at all for much less.yes glenn thats the one I think its been off kijiji for about a month now.seeing how the jeep is my winter rig I don't really have the time right now to get into any projects,I do know where I can get a 78 F250 for a $1000 its solid, needs paint and some engine work but other then that its a real solid.there is the 78 f150 in windsor that looks like a good truck.I am going to put the jeep back for sale and see what happens.if it doesn't sell for what I want for it I will probably pick up the 78 F250 and pick away at it until its done.but I think I am going to have to pass on the 79,the more I think about it the more I figure its been through the ringer.
well guys your idea of a super cab crossed my mind about an hour ago when I saw one for sale in nb.1978 camper special super cab 4x4.documented 68988 kms.never winter driven.at the low low price of $10500.if I only had the cash ahaha.slightly overpriced but it does look good.
