Keeping the RPM's down and low boost will give you the best results for MPG. That would be the only reason to do that. Sometimes I do just to see how much I can squeeze out of it.
Thanks for the info. At less than $3.00 a gallon I'm not to worried about MPG.
I just thought maybe there was something I missed. Some kind of breakin giude line we had to follow. But I'm way past the breakin.
I drove from Austin to Dallas this weekend (about 180-200). On the way back, traffic was flying and since i had 900 miles on the truck, i figure it was Ok to run a little faster.
I know the best way to check the mileage is with hand calculations so keep your comment - LOL
If I am running 70 mph with cruise, I get about 17.3 mpg
If I am running 75 mph with cruise, I get about 16 mpg
If I am running 80-85 without cruise I get about 14.3 mpg
It runs great but as the turbo gauge moves to to the right, the fuel gauge moves to the left - hand in hand.
Found fuel in Austin - $3.09
Found fuel in South Dallas - $2.95

I have the Lariat 4x4 3.73 gears with 20" tires (some day I will figure how to put that in my signature.
A very far off side note and sorry for hijacking - but I can not even imagine the number of 6.4l you would find at a rodeo / horse show. Almost every horse trailer I saw during this trip had a 6.4L pulling it. I know I live in TX and some of you who have never been here, dont think we have a lot of horses running around like in the John Wayne (God Bless) days. I was just bored driving and made that observation.
I have a 4X2 F-250 with 3.73 gears and 5700 miles on it. On a recent road trip driving 60mph the truck got 21.4mpg driving empty. Pulling a 9,000lb trailer it was getting 10 to 11, but on last trip pulled 12.6. Good driving conditions, with no wind!! So far I havn't been using any additives, with the colder temps here in Minnesota I'm looking at adding anti gel to the fills and expect lower mileage with the stations blending in #1.
