well me and my buddies dad just rebuilt my c6. it took about 16 qts of fluid to get it to hit drive and reverse. i thought these only took around 12. then something in the torque converter area is just whining like crazy. and gets worse with the rise of rpm. it whines in neutral and park. then once i put it in gear it stops while my foot is on the brake holding everything from spinning. then once i let off the brakes it starts whining and gets louder as it accelerates. any info would be great. i suspect a bad torque converter. i never took the truck out for a drive. i didnt want to hurt anything, but i did lift it up in the air and let it free spin.
Remember you have to fill your lines. When I rebuilt my transmission it took about 4 quarts more? maybe a bit less, you need to fill your lines and cooler
On the next it does sound like a torque converter, i had a suv doing the same thing, actually just had someone "rebuild" the converter and it worked fine. Sounds like your torque converter is going out, you might want to find someone who can re-do it or get a new one they're rather pricy from what I have seen but Ive also never truly looked just glanced lol.
I am not sure there is an adjustment for it, the only thing i'd tell you is that did you align everything correctly? and secure it to the flywheel?
when you added the fluid did you do it while the truck was running? I always add about 8 quarts and move the truck about 25 ft to get everything circulating and make sure its going to hit R/N/D then I fill it to the right level, maybe a quart or so low and take it for a drive making sure its going to hit every gear and not be hard. Then I completely top it off. I was always told to do that, not sure if the last part is good but the first part you're supposed to have the truck running after you add about 3-4 quarts of ATF.
The planitary gear set will idle free in park and neutral but in drive it will be held still by the clutches. If you drive the truck I would suspect it will make the same noise.

it will make the same noise. that is why i was tryin to figure out what was the source of it. im not to auto savy. im mostly a manual trans guy. and i dont really know much about them. i had the truck up in the air with it in drive.and it definately whines as i acclerate.
Are you sure you put all of the bearings and washers in the right direction? I had a friend helping me, one who was *cough* professionally trained at WyoTech. JA was slapping stuff in any ol which direction, some stuff would have self clearanced, and spread metal thruout the transmission. You can get a remand torque converter for around $50-75 if you turn in your old core.
well i think i have narrowed it down. i had my friends dad take a look tonight. and he dont believe anything is wrong transmission wise. it shifts too well. it is probably something scraping. so i'll have to get a light under there and check things out. so that is my next step anything got any ideas what could scrap under there. if i find anything i'll let ya'll know. thanx
