first of all, let me say that i am not a fan of stacks on any kind of truck except a flatbed. that is just my personal opinion and to each his own. but one thing i dont understand is something that ive been seeing a whole lot of lately.....guys that have stacks that stand at least 4 feet above the top of the cab.... if its to keep exhaust off their trailer then i can kind of understand it, but a water hose and two minutes worth of hosing will do the trick.
i just put it in the same category as civics that have a 14" muffler, neons with a 3 foot tall spoiler, or impala's with 24" rims.....and you all know how stupid those look.... is there a logical reason for stacks so tall that you almost cant go under a bridge or is this just a peter pulling contest that i'll never understand? i just feel a little bad making fun of one of our own if theres a legitimate reason for them......
dont get me wrong, im not putting down all stacks. its just not something i would put on my truck. i will say that every one that ive seen like that has been a dodge. maybe its a dodge thing.... i forgot to say in my original post that i even saw a motorcycle the other day with stacks......he had a straight pipe coming out the rear like normal, and then bent straight up with a stack that was about 5 feet tall lol.
i think the guys that have those get them cheap off a 18 wheeler, and dont feel like cutting them down. i like mine so you can barely see them over the cab from the front

i actually thought thats what they looked like....but then i passed a few 18 wheelers on the interstate that had the same thing. ones that literally stood several feet above their trailer. thats what me think that they did it to keep soot off their trailers. when i say i dont like stacks, i dont mean i think they are ugly. i like the way normal stacks look. its just not practical for me for what i use my bed for. i sleep in the bed of my truck a lot for work and i like camper tops too. and they dont go good with stacks lol. i love the way they look on a flat bed because the whole underside of the truck is exposed and the stock exhaust looks kind of funny. and you can run it up along side the cab like the big rigs do.
first off, having them that high wont keep the soot off the trailer...lol the aerodynamics pulls the air right back down onto the trailer anyway. and i agree, i dont care for them sitting high above the cab. i like mine right at roof level.
coon-i like the way yours look. i like the ones with the angle cut end on the pipe. ive seen a lot of dodges around here with about a 5 or 6" pipe that is cut off completely straight. youd have to cover it up every time it rained, snowed, leaves were falling, etc. i was just curious about those tall stacks and figured id ask someone that has stacks and knows a little more about them than i do. i just coulding willingly make my truck look that ugly unless there was some benefit to it lol.
i like the mitred turn outs the best....thats why i put them on my truck...lol. but i still get a little moisture in them after the rain. but as soon as you hit the key it puffs a small cloud and all is well.
I love the way stacks look, I'm just stingy about my bed space. Got a JOBOX that takes away about 2' and don't like the idea of giving up any more.
Gotta question while on the subject. I'm thinking that stacks would increase the in-cab noise level. Is this so? It's a concern because on long trips my wife and 3 year old like to sleep.

My family sleeps great in my truck. We sleep with a fan on in the house anyway so its just nice background noise.
As for really tall stacks. I agree they don't look right.
This is how tall that stack were on my truck when I bought it
This is how tall they are now
And there was one step in between pictured in my sig.
There is a dodge runnin' around here that not only has them way up above the cab, but they are the bent kind and they stick way out twards the side of the truck also. Looks totaly ridiculos IMO.
