stubborn spindle

I have a 1995 F150 4x4 that I am replacing the rotor and brake pads on. After getting it taken apart I noticed that the wheel joint is bad so I'll replace that too. Problem is I can't get the spindle off. I've tried WD-40 and beating it with a hammer and block of wood, putting a floor jack under it, beating it some more but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Bet mine was worse!!

On the '84 They'd never been off and it took me an hour to get 1 off.

I use a chisal and a 4 pount hammer where the spindel flange bolts to the carrier. After a gap form scredrivers can be used to pry it out. USE LOTS OF ANTISIEZE WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK TOGETHER!! I took mine off a month ago after being together 2 years and I could pull it off with my bare hands.

I guess some people have bad luck...every the three ive taken apart were all 79 axles....one 60 and two 44's....i could always just tap them and they fall right off

I'm not sure how your are made but I bet it's similar to the old Dana style. I took the threaded nut's that hold the wheel bearings in and threaded them onto the end of the spindle and then hit them w/ a 3lb sledge and that typically pops the spindle loose. After you get one side cracked loose ram a reg screwdriver into the gap and clobber the other side w/ the hammer. The screwdriver will keep it from shoving the side you just loosened back in. Careful how you smack those nuts too as you can ruin them very easy like this. Also, if you don't have a small sledge, get one. You're probably gonna need it anyway to get that axle joint out.

When I removed one of my spindles it took me about two hours. I tried everything mentioned above and then some. What ended up working was one of those long seven foot poles that has a wedge at the end of it (I don't know the name of it). I stuck the wedge end between the axle and the knuckle, positioning the wedge behind the flange on the end of the axle. After pulling on it back and forth for about 15 minutes it finally gave way with a loud "pop". This didn't completely remove it but it was loose enough to get the rest out by prying with a screwdriver and hammer.

Another trick ive found thats well is taking all the nuts off except one and tighten it back down by itself then taking it off and move it to oppisite side and tightening it down then move own till you have alternatly done this on all studs. be sure to use plenty of pb blaster,wd40 or somekind of penetrating oil....works for me
