BlackWidow diesel performance package?

Hey guys I have a question for ya, I have a 2001 stroker with a reman engine in it, ive had it installed for about a year now. Im ready to put some goodies on it I have had the usual on it since ive intalled the engine. S&B intake, 4 inch straight pipe, DP tuner, WW. I have always wanted more but after failure of my last engine, which had 250000 before she went **** up, ive been kinda leary. I saw that blackwidow diesel has a package that includes a garret GTP38r turbo and Industrial Stage III hybrid sticks, they say its good for 400 horse. Is this a good combo or is the garrett a mediocore turbo should i look into somthing like the tubonetics line. My stoker has some weight to move around i have a 10inch lift rolling 40s with stock 3.73 gearing, anyways any info would be great sorry for the long post. AK_Chase

youll find that the TN BB turbos have been discontinued for our trucks so i would definitely go with the garret. however those stage 3 sticks might be a bit much for the motor if you have the pmr's in your new engine.

Yea, only thing Tubonetics make for the 7.3 is some intercooler kit now. If I remember from a few of my catalogs I think they still make turbos for the 6.0...really pricey though.

Now that Ive double checked its only 1 turbo for the 6.0 anyways...looks like they might not be selling many...

Do you have PMR's in the new engine? If so you might want to rethink this a little bit, maybe shoot for 375hp. You dont "need" to regear the rear end but you really should it wont feel so sluggish off the either..

Hey guys thanks for the info and yea about the PMR's I really should look into that my last engine had them and you never know I might be lucky and have forged rods in the reman. But I really do want more power im getting 36 psi outa the stock turbo now acording to my isspro gauge but the surge is rediculous pulling any kind of trailer. So they say the GTP38r cleans up the surge problem pretty good and is good for 40 pounds of the good stuff, any of you out there with this turbo find that to be true? Also hows the wistle lol. Thanks again guys

26 #s maybe, but, no way in hell your getting 36#s from a stock turbo.

Spend the money on regearing to get those 40s moving and keep the engine in its powerband. If you throw a turbo and injectors at it now with the 3.73s, you will still be disappointed.

I think your FIRST priority should be the gearing. 40s will need some pretty big gears. You go straight for those sticks & GTP38r, you'll be needing a tranny pretty quick, methinks. You can got with a van turbo & Swamps single-shot sticks which should get you around 360ish, and you'll save some bucks and not be stressing about your "new" block...

Yeah I have a fully built tranny so im not worryin about that aspect of it but regearing would be a good idea I know it would bring my egt's down. But I guess what I was originaly wondering is the GTP38r a good turbo or is it just my stocker with an ATS shroud and ball bearings pretty much. And unless my boost gauge is lieing to me with my dp tuner in the 140 horse tune pulling a 4 place snowmobile trailer up a hill it will peg out at 35 psi. Now this is not how I treat my truck just one of those times i wanted to see what she had.

the GTP38R is not your stocker with a shroud and BBs, It actually does have a little larger drive wheel, and of course the the larger A/R (if you so choose), It also has a larger compressor plate, as well as the option of being wastegated or non wastegated.

Yes, I retract my previous statement...... With that type of driving, I guess you could see 35psi. If you do that very much, you wont have a choice but to replace the turbo. Do you remeber what your EGTS were during that pull?

to get you back in the power band I would think some 5.13s would be very beneficial, and probably cost less than the sticks, hairdryer and having the tunes reflashed.

Hey thanks for that info bdrummonds about the GTP38r sounds like a pretty decent turbo for the bones. And yes I have been toying with the idea of regearing but it just runs so good now and i dont pull anything to heavy decent fuel mileage too believe it or not, so i just havent been to serious about it. And I believe my egt's were somewhere in the 1450 creeping to 1500 on that pull I love this DP tuner runs so much cooler than my previous edge j/a stacked with the evo that stuff was junk in my opinion.

Where is your Pyrometer located, pre or post turbo?

whatever you do keep those EGTS down below 1250. Aluminum pistons melt pretty easily if you peg 1450 to 1500 for more than a few seconds.

There is a reason that EGT gauge is color coded.

Green= OK

Yellow= Caution

Red= Holy Chit
