Flat and square = good to go. No module needed.
Mechanics tend to always blame what they do not know. I've heard all kinds of stories as to how an alarm damaged something. It's just an easy thing to blame.
Ford actuators go out anyway. I replaced mine with aftermarket ones made by DEI, same company that makes the python alarms.
Thanks for all the info that you have given me and the reat of us. It is very much appreciated!
Be really carefull about drinking the DEI kool-Aid. They do build a reliable product. However, many companies have the exact same units for half the price. Alsok becuase DEI is the largest company they have the FCC watching everything they do. I am the largest remote strart retailer in the country with over 5000 remote start sales last year alone if that helps give my oppinion any credit. The FCC being all over them means their units work about half as far away as their competitors. Also, because they are a publicly traded corp they are constanty afraid of being sued. As such you won't find temperature controlled starting in their products. They are afraid grampa will accidently adctiveate it while sleeping and gas the family from the enclosed garage. I currently sell products from Omega Research. They hold 90% of the patents that DEI uses on their products. The 1810EDP I sell has all the same features as the DEI two way LCD, add double the real world range, and temp start, However I retail the unit as an allarm remote start for $250 installed. You will have a hard time finding a DEI LCD non refurbed unit on ebay for that. If you decide to tackle it yourself I would be glad to give you any pointers. If their is any vehicle a beginer shouldn't have any problems with it is a super duty ford truck. I do them in about 20 minutes.

Two red flags here. #1.....this is a new user, bashing something that many of us can vouch for being a GREAT product. Sorry if your intentions are good, but we have seen many many new people come and go. #2......you are violating FTE rules since you are not a sponsor, and you're trying to sell stuff right out in the open here. Sorry to be a downer if you are legit....just sayin it like it is. Python/DEI makes a great product, you get what you pay for! Rant over
I install DEI products which include wasp, hornet, python, viper. Usually for remote start and security we use python or viper. They are very close in features. Most models have a wait to start light. They can either tap into the light on the dash, or the programming can be set to a default time. You can also lengthen your crank time if your truck doesn't always fire directly up. Run times can be set up to I think 15 mins. There is a new python out, model 872, that beeps when your remote start time is getting low and you can restart your time without killing the vehicle. That's a new feature as well as what's jokingly nick named "beat down" mode. Lets say you park your truck in the carport and don't want an alarm waking neighbors, silent arm it and keep your controller near you. If somebody sets the alarm off they won't know it but your controller will beep. Go beat them down. If you have more than one truck you can put this same model alarm on both and use one remote to switch between car1 and car2.
Hey I hate to bother you, but if you could PM me about a Python 1400XP I would be greatful. It worked fine and then I installed the DP Tuner, and I love both of them. Going down the road, the remote start system will ramdomly unlock and relock the doors. When the doors unlock, the parking lights come on and then the doors lock and the lights go out, or you can tap the brakes and the lights will go out and the doors will unlock...strange for sure. I just put a toggle switch in the hot line to the box so when it starts getting stupid on me, I just flip the switch and depower the box. I have also noticed that when you start the engine remotely sometimes it runs for a minute or so and shuts off, restarts and shuts off. If you are driving and when the doors unlock, and lights come on, it is as if you remotely openend the doors. Also if you are driving or say just setting still and the doors lock, you can turn the key off and it stays running till you hit the brake. It sounds like it is constantly trying to start and shut down the truck. Since you are driving and the key is on, nothing happens except the door and parking light thing. Any suggestions? I talked to DP tuner and I installed the shielded cable and it still does it, and it only started this the very day I installed the CPM with the DP chip in it...Thanks for any suggestions, Dave
I was in no way trying to sell a product at all. I was just trying to show how overpriced DEI product is. I offered to walk the guy through installing his own unit if he wanted to. In my post I never said anything bad about DEI product is is extremely reliable. However, many of the units made by other companies are manufacutred by newtech in Korea and are the exact same unit (can unplug one and plug the other one in) for half the money. If people want to spend twice as much for the remote to have a snake on it more power to them. I came to this forum becuase I bought an excursion and wanted to read about the powerstroke engine. I figured while I was here I would impart some of my knowledge about remote starts to help members out. I promise NOBODY has more knowledge about remote starts than I do. If me pointing out realities about the remote start industry offends DEI owners sorry I won't try to help anymore. However, I feel if many of you knew you could unplug your init and plug the same thing in for half the price you might feel DEI took advantage of you just a little bit.
I got a prrice for a cumpustar 2w900 installed for 500$ plus another 125$ to get the alarm and it is a two way system..so 625 total. has a 3000foot range....seem high to yall? I don't work for free either. However, I would probably only charge $20. You'd be surprised what kind of crap you can get into with the most simple of jobs.
I have a guy who has a shop right across the street from me that it selling one with a turbo timer $279 installed out the door. I will find out who makes it tomorrow and get back to y'all about it.
