I was talking with one of my friends and he said to run an additive every once in a while to make up for the lack of lubricants in today's ULSD especially if I have an older diesel not designed for low sulfer.
I have an 02 7.3L 4x4 but how often should I use it (if at all) and what kind is good and where to get it? In other words what are you guys running and how often?
Got a couple more questions if yall don't mind like how long to go between oil changes? I run regular non synthetic and just do around town driving with occasional pulling boat. I changed it about 4k miles ago and only run about 1k miles per month.
One more question I'm looking for an exhaust and was wondering what would be a good brand and does it mess with any sensors like backpressure or anything when you switch to higher flow?
I would use fuel additive every fill up. You want to make sure that what you are using is just for fuel. I would stay away from the two cycyle thing. Sorry Ray. I have been told from several people who are smarter than me that two cycle will build up deposits in ever part of the combustion chamber. That includes injectors, valves, tops of pistons etc.

to each his own,if it is building up I love it wish it would build up more ,truck is getting real good milage on this coctail
I use a fuel treatment every tank as well (unless I put in BioDiesel). DK since I bought the truck, which was right around the time ULSD came out. Tired 2-cycle recently and I got the worst mileage ever running that stuff -- 12.5 mpg. Now granted I was hot-rodding it, but I didn't expect to lose 3 mpg!! I average 15.5 normally. This tank, I dropped in some Schaeffer additive, and I'm on my way to over 20 mpg this time. I'm almost to 500 miles so far, and I haven't even got below a 1/4 tank yet (I have a SB with the smaller 29 gal tank). The last time I used Schaeffer additive, I got great mileage as well. I think it's good stuff!
But whatever you use, I think you should use something. ULSD is a lot drier than LSD, so it will be harder on the injectors.
Joe,
All of Schaeffers fuel treatments can be used for Bio.
Here are the choices:
Diesel Treat 2000
Diesel Treat 2000 Winter Premium
Neutra
Neutra Plus
Winterized Neutral Plus
Soyshield
Biotreat Premium Diesel
Diesel Hot Line
Artic Shield.
Plus a few others.
The reason I am asking is because I have been hearing some good things about the Soyshield. Just curious
The main difference in the winterized is it has a flow improver in it for winter gelling. I run it year around however.
