So my battery pooched out on me last week and had to replace it, (oem 650 cca what a joke...) anyways i took the old batt out went in to the parts store and got a 850cca 1250ca biggest i could get, well it was well over 1/2 an hour after i dealt with customer service, the cash and reinstalled the batt out in the parking lot, now i have noticed the truck seems to be slower off the line up to 75mph or so (fastest i've gone). Also it seems to be slower down shifting when i goto pass. And the inside of my pipes are coated with sut (black stuff)... the pipes have been fairly clean for 15,000kms is this normal??? untill the computer gets recailibrated again? only mod is a flowmaster cat back for now.
I'm normally passive driver but when i want to go.... I hammer on it for all it's worth and want it to go. So what do you guys recomend for a driving style until the comp "learns" or does it always learn and this pointless so just drive as I normally do?.
it took me almost a week after unplugging my battery for the truck to get back to "normal". I also got a 850 CCA and 1200 CA. My other vehicle battery went dead, so I threw the "smaller" battery in it, and slapped the bigger battery into the truck
It takes a certain amount of key cycles and other variables. Just keep driving her and hopefully it gets back to normal
alright so i should just drive it normally? or drive the **** out of it for a tank or two? so it atleast feals faster lol?
on the battery i hope 850cca is enough to get my truck started in -20 Celsius (4 Fahrenheit) or colder, i had a 725cca in my civic and that was a 1.6litre 4 banger lol eats my truck anyday of the week though and for days when it needed extra: a 75hp shot of nos cured that haha
ya drive it like normal...dont baby it or drive it like you stole it....the truck should get back to where it was. When i got my optima my truck acted like crap for a week and then was back to her old self
I had the same question a couple weeks ago, and got pretty much the same answer, and i did reset my computer before hand. This is what i found, and i put about 150 miles on my truck a week, and 2-4 key cycles a day. After the first 50-70 miles it felt like the truck was back to normal. Then it felt like it started over again. Now after about 500 miles it feels alot better and feels normal so by my calculations about 500 miles and about 60 key cycles it seems like its back to normal. Just some food for thought!
cool, thanks it seems tobe good now maybe even better because i hauled some decent loads within 500 miles after the new battery, helped a friend move and hauled out my dads camper for him, damn is my flowmaster loud with a load on the engine, how has your truck been? tranny problem still there or did they figure something out?
The truck seems all better, the tranny problem was a broken connector on the speed sensor, all fixed now. Running better and love the truck. Im just looking for a set of tires now to replace the noisy, gas guzzling AT's that came on the truck. Thats it!
Ya, i decided against those and im gonna try a set of General Ameritrac TR, that i got used, if they arent any good on my truck in the snow than ill put the AT's back on for winter, but i have never had a bad experience in the snow with any tire that ive owned, its all in the way you drive it.
I hated the general Americraps I has on my 04 screw. I got rid of them this spring. Got Firestone Destination A/T's 255/70/17's (almost 33").
I found the Generals to have terrible forward traction in the rain, but braking was ok. Snow, they were about useless, even in 4wd. Tried to pull a monte carlo out of a snow bank, should have been able to just ease it out, but I had to gun it and jerk the daylights out of the monte. (owner gave me permission to jerk it out, I know, still not good for it).
The Firestone Destination A/T's are wonderful so far. Quietest AT tire I've ever had or heard. The Generals are louder than the these tires. Great in rain, best braking of any tire I ve had on any car or truck. Haven't got to try in snow yet, but won't be long.
Well ill try them out, they cant be all that bad basically every truck that comes off the lot where im at has them and there are a lot of them. I have also come to find out that no matter what tire you talk about on here someone hates it or they think its the worst tire ever. So i will just have to try them, my uncle owns a gas station where i live and he has a tire mounting and balancing machine, so its nothing for me to try them. And if i find they dont work then ill go back to my Mastercraft Courser AT's I have that put off just a little too much humm for me. Thanks!
Not to hijack this any more than it already is, but....
Everyone seems to love picking on the General tires they put on many of our trucks. I just don't understand it... I've had my truck in winter in northern NY, where they get more snow than most other places in the country, and my truck, with the Generals, did just fine. You can't say that just because it didn't yank a car out of the ditch in slippery weather that the tires are junk...
My other 4x4 is a '95 Chevy Blazer. Bought it a year and a half ago, and the previous owner put Bridgestone Dueler A/T revos on it. This is nearly a top rated a/t tire...and it does NOT perform much better than the Generals on my F150 do.
I think what sways most people's opinion about a truck tire is the APPEARANCE of the tire, more than anything else. Big tires with aggressive tread look cool, thus they must be better tires...or something like that.
As xjcamaro89 said, it's ALL in how you drive it. NO all season tire will do better than a snow tire in the snow...but driven PROPERLY an all-season tire, like the general ameritrac, will do just fine in the snow.
BTW, xjcamaro89, I've gotten up to 20 MPG on the highway with my Generals...in a 6,000 lb, 4x4 truck. Can't complain!
Thanks Crazy! Ive been driving on crappy snow covered back roads since before i was 16 and ive had lots of different tires on lots of different vehicles and if you take your time and drive like a normal person with common sense then your fine. If they dont drive like i want them to under my driving conditions then i can swap the AT's back on for winter. So i think i will at least try them, i got them so why not. and the better gas mileage doesnt hurt either. Thanks!
Ive also come to realize that the tire reviews (not just on FTE), mostly come from people that hate the tire and want to vent some where, not to many times so you get people reviewing a tire and praise the heck out of it, because they just drive it and dont car cause it is satisfying for them. Just my two cents again!
