First Ford
Just bought my first Ford, 2004 F150 XLT Lariat. Has 135,000 and needed something to drive that was 4WD now that I've moved north. The previous owner has NOT changed the plugs, had a transmission flush or cam phasers replaced. I know I cant do the cam phasers myself but what about the plugs? I work for an International Truck dealership and have a Ford dealership close by. I know the plugs are a bear and I have access to the tool to extract the broken plugs. Is this something I want to tackle myself?
Thank you and Happy New Year to all,
Mike

Hi all... trying to help my daughter who's down in Florida with her 2009 f250.
I'll be looking for the proper place to request tech help but i''l give you the general picture.
Bought a truck from a local mechanic i have used for quite a while. Was in "OK" condition but my daughter could afford it and the Mechanic has a daughter involved with horses so he knows the needs. His words "I won't let her get get stuck in the boodocks"... well guess what happened?
SHe left home (Massachusetts) to work for the winter in Fla on a horse farm. She had a bunch of work done to take care of some issues and it seemed to be running well. UNfortunately in Gerogia iot started bucking and the tow light flashing. She brought it to at least 3 different places and none could resolve the issue. All had different ideas but none seemed to fit. The closest i came to finding something similar was a description for a bad trasmission temperature sensor. She was able to make it to Fla., but she had to keep it under 50 MPH and turn it off when it started acting up.
SO now that she's down near ocala i had her take it to a ford dealer. She agreed to pay $89 for "diagnosis" and while the slip she recieved did describe a condition that makes some sense " A melted wiring harness on the manifold" the diagnosis sheet simply said that and listed the repair estimate at more than $1700.... She makes $300 a week... :-)
So i'm going to look for some input as to "Could replacing a wire harness really cost that much?" I suspect that if there was that damage the truck would not be running at all.
Anyway, I'm trying to get the girl home without having to fly down and rent a truck to bring her and her horse home....
Peace!

If one of the moderators will move this post to the Super Duty forum there will be lots of people who will help! Best thing about this site!!
It will help to know the engine/transmission combination and 2 or 4 wheel drive.
You can post it there by going to "Forums" then "Super Duty & Heavy Duty." When the page opens, click "Forum Tools," then click "Post a new thread." I haven't tried it, but I think you can copy and paste from your original post.
First Diesel, Now the fun begins!!!! :)
Hi,
Long time lurker first time requester for help.
I just bought a 1984 f250 6.9l diesel, thanks to all for extensive information about the 6.9l diesels.
Heres some details about the truck:
64,000miles
13.5 mile to the gallon with a 2500lb load over the California grapevine, 6% grade. Did great!!!
non turbo 6.9l diesel
non- cold air intake, still got the "soup bowl" if i understand it correctly.
single pipe 3" exhaust off the Y
2x4
c6 transmission
Axle-Dana 6300 3.54
17" rims
I believe thats the important stuff.
I have a lot of questions about mechanical work recommendations, and tow ability.
So where should i post my questions so i can get the best help from all you smart folks?
Thanks for the help.

Hi all. I have been browsing this forum for several answers for my truck. I have found some much needed help, so I thought I might as well join.
I will try to ask my questions (there are an awful lot) in the correct threads.
I look forward to one day being able to contribute something besides questions.
