We have a Bobcat, I think it is a 763 or 773. It can lift right at a ton and is easily serviced. The oil drain is probably the biggest PITA, it is a small hose that drains the oil at about a cup a minute. We have around 2500 hours on it and use it for everything from post hole digging, dirt work, bran cleaning and pallet work as well as a post pounder. Never had an issues and Bobcat seems to be cheaper than Cat stuff. You can also buy blank mounting plates for around $150 and mount anything you want on it. The one thing they don't do is move snow very well, they just ride up on it and get high centers or spin the tires when you get to pushing a drift. Same thing will happen if you try to dig hard dirt.

773 or 873 where the lift is vertical would be a big preference.

Made a point of looking today and we have a 773 FWIW, one other nice thing about it is it fits under an 8' header. Also the only problems I have run across are some slight leaks in the hydraulic connections and the quick tach latches getting sticky every now and then. Also dirt likes to build up under the foot pedals so you need to keep that cleaned out.
