'04 EX with 103,000 miles, so no more warranty. Truck has always surged at times at idle, but lately started surging at cruise also, and got P2285 code this morning. It is an early '04, so I'm pretty sure the ICP is under the turbo. Question is if I should pay the dealer, or buy the sensor and new plug off Ebay cheaper and scrape my own arms up. Can the replacement plug even be changed from underneath? If I change the sensor, should I automatically change the plug, or just wait and be disappointed that it is still not fixed?
i'm sorry but i find it hard to believe it took less then an hour to do it. you can get at it from up above, just have to remove the degas bottle and intake then use some swivels and extensions to get at it. i just had mine done at ford and would recommend doing it yourself to save some money. my cost was $700+, i can't remember exactly but next time i am doing it myself.

I will repeat what I said. Recall 03B05 ICP sensor replacement. Labor hours 0.7 as per Oasis.
it is around a hour job. any more is either diag or rape. the connector should not need replacement. i use brake cleaner to clean mine and i havent replaced the first connector.
I did hate the tech that worked on my truck that day, the guy I wanted to do my work was out with a hurt back or something, must have been a piece of **** tech for me cause I know he was working on it all morning at least.
rollerstud98, if the work was done recently, I'd go back and argue the bill. I'm pretty sure Ford only compensates the dealership 0.7 hrs for the work if it is under warranty.
When I swapped mine out, I pulled the degas, air intake, ficm, and the intake bolt closest to the firewall. This allowed me to get a socket (cut to the right length) on the sensor to tighten and loosen.
However, I also had to jack the truck up and reach up from underneath to get the threads started on the new one. Once the threads were started, I climbed back under the hood to tighten it up.
I'm pretty sure this job could be completed in an hour or so if you knew exactly how to attack it.
It was done back in June and not under warranty, I was about 40k km's off of warranty when it happened. I still like my dealer though, the other tech does **** for me for nothing and barely accepted the cash I gave him for doing that.
yes I'm in Canada but at the time of it happening, it was either 1:1 or even tipped into Canadian favor a little bit, not like right now where it totally sucks to buy stuff down in the states again.
