There is a difference in the front cover design. The 95's have a drain back hole for the HPOP which doesn't lend itself well to upgraded HPOP's. And I can't put my finger on it, but the 96 and 97's I've driven, just seem stronger than my 95. Comparing stock to stock. I don't know what the difference is, but I'd sure like to know. Also, the cooling system is setup kinda different. The 95's have the radiator that has a cap, and later years don't
I have one of each. They have a different transfer case and driveline for the 4 wheel drive. The transfer case on the '95 is a very poor gearbox. Have put two in. Same thing with the driveline, very poor. Performance is dramatically better in the '97 as stock. Can't think of much else I think the rear axle in my 97 is different too. I know the gear ratios are. My '97 is a E4OD the '95 a 5 speed. The '95 is mostly just used for a farm truck. I would try to buy the '95 for less than 6,000 if it were me, 5,000 would be a good eal if the engine is strong. They are still a good truck just plan on having driveline problems if you work it much. The IDM's are the same. The PCM as far as I know the same. Turbo same. If you live in Texas it is doubtful you will be able to buy it that cheap. Good luck!
are the t-cases out of 97 trucks a direct bolt in ?
I have not tried it but I see no reason why it would not work. The case on the 95 will wear out wher the shift linkage goes through the case. I have tried shimming them , it works for awhile . If you do buy it and need a case someday I would highly recommend trying the later model transfer case,
Good luck I don't think yo ucan go wrong. that is provided it don't blow up two days after you buy it...!
keep clinging to those guns and religion! AMEN!
I'm a full time gunsmith so I'm right there with you!
I got my Bible in my left hand and my shotgun in my left and I'm clinging big time!
Did you buy the truck Shanett? I'd sure like to find a '99 Super Duty 7.3 one of these days!

95s are a weaker truck in stock form. I do believe that they have the least HP rating. II think they are 210 and 96 and up are 220 correct? I know my 95 is a little weaker, but thats going to change here shortly with a TW chip, intercooler, and stage 1's
My '95 is terrible doggy but it is total stock. I may just do a 10 k mod and a 140 IDM mod and call it good on that truck. The '97 ran a Lot better just stock, it does great now. Not a lot more i wil do with it. Gonna go with stage 1 injectors. Got plans for an intercooler working on rounding up parts . Planning on a 140 IDM if it is feasible with the Bully Dog chip. I tried their tech line Again today, never could get through.
