Who said ya couldnt bring up extreme examples also?Who said ya messed up??!! Dont get all womanly on me bud lol
What was your point though...?

the risk of driving a car (to me) is much less then riding a bike down a road with no bike lane, now i could be wrong but that would be my guess. and the little risk is so small that it is worth driving my car to get to work and what not. but the risk on a bike is enough for me to not ride on road with no bike lane or ride in the left turn lanes, because to me that is greatly risking your life.

Thats cool you have an opinion like that Im just discussing things from the other side of the track, so to speak.
Something to ponder, how many people get killed in cycling accidents in your area? Now how many people get killed driving cars in your area?
I bet the cycling deaths are less.

they might not die every time but i bet they come close to it a bunch of times...
I doubt they come close very often at all, that would be my guess, as a biker, and a driver.

sorry my bad, but someone did bring up the gun deal, my point was just that i am on the internet and not out yelling at cyclist because according some some people they cary wepons and to me yelling at someone isnt worth the risk, but here on the net whats the worse that can happen? i get droped from the site?

well noone dies in this city (no really no one does die here).......but jsut because the raw number of bike deaths might be less then car deaths you have to look at the total number of miles that are drove vs the total miles that are road on a bike and then use ratios, and i dont have ANY of those numbers.
i dont know of any times i really came close to dieing, but have come close to hitting a few cyclist (very glad that i didnt, no one wants that) but both were their falt, well in my book their falt. two that i can think of, one was at night the guy had no reflectors no lights and no helmet, and i was making a left trun into a parking lot and he was riding the other direction. the second i was also making a left and he was going the othe way and ran the red.

I dont think you would get dropped from this site either for discussing your opinions, and i was honestty asking if ya think you would get shot for yelling! Up here ya might get in a fist fight, but thats about it, was just curious

Now was I was getting at for the whole less cyclists deaths in a year compared to cars, was the general risk would be less.

Around here, there was I think, about 3 cyclist deaths in the last year, and I couldnt even guess the number of car auto deaths, but definatly alot more.

Looking at it that way, it would almost seem that it would be safer to ride a bike.....

Thats all i was trying to get at.

yeah the few times i ride a bike i do the same thing, unless there is someone walking on the side walk but then i get back up once i pass them, and i never use left turn lanes, i always cross one street then wait and cross the next one and be on my way

I have beeen on all sides of the fence. I am a vehicle driver (big SUV) I love to ride my bike. I have ridden on a motorcycle and I ride my horses on the road and roadsides.

I do my best to follow the rules of the road in all circumstances but do occasionally mess up. I have found the most inconsiderate drivers are those who drive near horses. My daughter and and I have been riding on country roads and often cannot ride in the side grass due to beer bottles, cans etc thrown out by motorists so we have to ride on the edge of the road. People will come up on us doing 65-70 in 45 zones and blare their horns as they pass. This is done when my daughter and I both have flouresent green vests that say please do not honk. I have had my horses spook and am put in more danger than had the idiot just slowed when he saw us stop, turn slightly as I hold my hand at a downward angle asking for a slow down. It all falls into the respect bucket.
Just treat people how you would want to be treated. Not everyone can afford a car, not everyone wants to drive a car. Not everyone wants to be in a rush to get anywhere. I live in small town so. indiana and am very close with my amish homies. I see them terrorized by drivers always in a hurry.
I have learned to just slow down and respect the rights of others. If they do not respect our zone, move back no need to get hasty. They will ultimately pay for it. There are so many things to do besides get pissed. Just take the time to think happy thoughts. You will be better off in the end.

I ride a bike the same way. I get off and walk it across at a crosswalk (sometimes ride slowly through or roll it through) and I do ride on the sidewalk when there is no pedestrians.

I dont ride bike enough in the city anymore to even get into a situation where I would need to use the left turning lane. Most of my biking is now done outside in the country, where only drunk farmers can run over me lol.

Thats kinda funny, you should go on google maps, and check out saskatchewan, the province I live in.

The whole province has a population of around a million people!

Okay to start out for the evening..... One of my brothers sent me a pm asking who peed in my wheaties ? of course he used the appropriate word if i recall!
So 1st, Brady i have not meant to actually attack you, i like you in the other threads, in fact i like you here although a couple times you come off as a hammerheaded punk! In truth reading the evolution of your posts, i dont feel as though you meant to be a punk, rather it was a lack of knowledge and not being able to comprehend others desires to do something as risky as riding a bike in traffic. so as your posts evolved it became apparent it was more a concern issue, than a self absorbed i am the king of the world thing. So if i did come off as offensive to you, I am Sorry!

I commuted on my bicycle for about one year, in fact after the thaw through to the next years freeze i filled up my car 2 times. I go to work at 4am for a 430 arrival, it was 6 miles. My employer is in the heart of Rockfords ghetto, there arent many places in rockford tougher than that area. It was okay at 4 am cause most of the troublemakers were in bed, and i rode right past the parking area for all of our police cruisers. The cops got to know me and even though they didnt make it obvious they watched out for me once i crossed into the ghetto, i would get passed every morning by a couple seperate cruisers. The afternoon was a different story, if they wanted to act like the animals they are they did. They yelled, threatened, threw things, whatever they felt like. In fact one day i had a very angry militant black girl, start yelling at me cause i was on a side street, trying to cross a busy street. I did not belong thereaccording to that ignorant wench, now me being me i informed her she was wrong told her my rights etc. When she atrted yelling the racial slurs and honking i just held up my middle finger and left it up while i waited for chance to cross. Yea i am a jerk, and and an idiot when it comes to standing up for my rights. she proceeded to jump her car at me, called me more racial slurs everything. when she had enough she went to her truck and pulled out a stainless semi automatic handgun. as soon as i saw the gun i did my best impression of Moses, okay maybe it was more like a screaming beeotch sissy version of Frogger, but i got across and peddaled for my life. know as car drivers, and me on a very expensive skinny tired roadbike, you know it was futile at best. I found a man outside in his driveway and skidded up screaming for help, he ran up as this piece of trash did a driveby style rollup, brandishing her gun. she got away, even though the police response was about 45 seconds. The following year looking to continue something i loved, and was so good for me i tried again. I hadnt made it a month , i was threatened and guided off the road by jayholes in cars 3 times!!!!
I gave up, i havent hardly touched my bikes since, i just call them very expensive wall art! All because as a society we have become a bunch of self absorbed jerk offs, nobody matters to anyone, and nobody is willing to experience a moments inconvenience for another. We are devolving into cro magnon man. I realize that is a generalization, but unfortuneatly there numbers are growing at an alarming rate, and nothing is being done to roll it back. we can see it everywhere, in every walk of life.
So that is my history that creates such a fire in the gut on this topic. in fact if Brady was riding his bike and i witnessed someone screwing with him, i would put my life in danger to protect him or exact revenge/justice! Yes my beliefs are that strong, i will take an agressor out to protect someone incapable of protecting themselves! The sorry azzed truth is we are losing our rights to enjoy our lives within the laws, because the lawless have no fear of the laws, and our society in whole. that is really the bottom line that makes me see red in this issue. again i am sorry.

Now for the horses thing, hoosier, you are out of your mind, but i feel the same way about your right to ride your horses. I have a couple of men that ride there horses near our shop.It never fails on my way back to the shop in the semi, a couple times a month they are out there. Man i cant tell you how inconvenient that is, always when i am in a hurry. I always think back to my bicycle, and no matter what every one around me in cars does or thinks i slow way down move as far away as possible(the oncoming lane, those jerks need to slow down anyways) i go by at about 15 miles per, after the rider has acknowledged my presence, and when i can do so at that speed. An inanimate bicycle and rider are one thing a person on an animal is something else entirely. good luck, and if you see my semi, just wave, your welcome!
whew was that a rant!

Stu- I like my wheaties that way brother!!!!! Hahahaha! Dan

yeah there is NO way i would EVER do anything to someone on a horse, that thing gets spooked and it can be all over quick. a bike wont kick the rider if i honk but a horse might.

yeah there is NO way i would ever go as far as getting a gun or anyother object out to threaten a cyclist, that is just stupid. if i saw someone pull a gun on a cyclist i would try to help also because that is just to far, honking is one thing but trying to physlcaly harm them is just way out of line....

i did move from a i am king of the world stand to a its unsafe stand cuz there was no way i would win the king of the world agrument....

i have said this before i think that biking to work and other places is GREAT (aside from not being able to have kids...), i just think it would serve every one cyclist and cars better if they were not riding in the car lanes.

71dusterdan you never offended me if anyone did the offending it would have been me, i never wanted to offend anyone, just complain about a trend that i see going on.
