I don't mind motorcycles passing through traffic lanes to get to the front. As long as I do not get stuck behind a moped, the more power to them. Same with bikes, as long as they do not ride two abreast.
> running stop signs
A guy last week in Clarkston GA, who was a well known bike guy with local bike trails and such, learned the tonnage rule when he was killed for running a stop sign, he died.

thats just terible. and to me that would be enough to keep me from doing that kinda stuff regardless of the law.
what part of YOU CANT RIDE A BIKE ON A SIDEWALK are you missing...obviously they arnt motorists---hence bike that has no motor. and since when cant i walk along the side of the road? you have never been on a road that no sidewalk?
i never said anything about side walks. all i am saying is if you want to ack like a car then i am going to treat you like one.
and yes i have and there is no way i would ever ride my bike on a road with no bike lane or side walk.

i dont know about where you live, but the bikers that i see arnt riding in the middle of the road acting like they have 600cc's between there legs..........as far as your comment goes, thats pretty sad....absolute epitomy of a driver that people end up shaking there heads at
yeah cross one street and then the other like all the other people not in cars. here we even have bike crossing buttons next to the walk crossing button
If we lived in a perfect world (which we do not) there would be enough officers of the law to enforce all the LAWS for drivers, walkers, bike riders etc. While we all like to think we are in the RIGHT most of the time I was taught almost fifty yeats ago that it is ok to be RIGHT but don't be an IDIOT and be DEAD RIGHT. So I was taught to drive defencevly (spelling), look right, left, front, back & up. Everybody on the road has rights. We should all try to respect the other guys rights also.
I know when I was younger (last week, I think) I was like most, in a hurry, didn't want to waste time behind slow or cautious drivers (now I R one because I realize my reaction time is not as good as when I was younger), would talk to others with my windows rolled up. I was usually the first one across the intersection etc, etc, etc.
Point being THINK about how you want to be treated on the road and act accordingly. The old GOLDEN RULE thing; DO ONTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO ONTO YOU. You will always find some people are rude, crude, obseane etc. Why raise your BP life is too short.
I'll get off the soapbox now, did not mean this as a slam to anyone. Be happy ! ! !
Brady, your problem is that you have no empathy for those that wish to ride bikes. You don't care about them, and you couldn't be bothered enough to treat them like fellow travelers. I don't mind being a little quick to the draw here, since people have tried to be nice about it and it doesn't seem to have reached you.
Bikers have a right to the same roads, and you have the same responsibility to look out for them as they have to not be buttheads. That you have no patience for them is a failing on your part. That they are buttheads is a failing on their parts. The nicer drivers and bikers seem to get along pretty well.
Been where you are, almost hit a prkish spandex-clad bicycle God, had to go in front of the commander. Kept my stripes, learned a lesson. Didn't killl anybody.
you have never seen the cyclist ride over to the left turn lane and just sit there in the middle of the lane, when they want to make a left?

Okay Brady i just pulled it up in a drivers handbook for Illinios, the 3 foot is a hard and fast rule, and you will be ticketed. now for the quotes, that biker being in the left turn lane.... that is exactly where he is supposed to be, according to Illinios state motor vehicle code!!!!!! there are supposed to get over to the side of the road after the turn as quickly as safely possible, but there are obeying the law . So basically that means quit being a self absorbed, inconsiderate (Insert your choice of expletive here)just relax and wait your turn, and rest easy knowing that a few minutes later you will never see that bike again. Now i dont mean to sound like a jerk and imply you are actually a self etc etc, just many of our current auto drivers have molded into this picture. Dan

I dont get your thinking on this one man.
Say i pulled up behind you in a rousch mustang, and you were waiting to turn left in your focus.
Would it be fair for me to say that your car shouldnt be allowed on the road because the mustang would be able to do that left turn faster?
Im a cyclist, and a professional driver (drive big rigs out in the oil patch) I see way more people in cars doing alot more stupider things then people on peddle bikes.
Definatly not saying some cyclists dont break a few rules either though.
Man i warned ya that i wasnt a very good neighbor in the last bike thread..... so you made me do it.
California vehicle code, division 11, chapter 1, article 4
code 21200- Every person riding a bicycle upon a highway has all the rights and is subject to all the provisions applicable to a vehicle!!!!!!! Dont screw with him, suck your teeth and accept the fact they are there and right in doing so. On the other hand they need to obey all the laws that you do also, but what the heck, we all know you have never broken a speed limit or any other rule of the road. code21202- I am just gonna summarize this one.... ride as close to the right side as possibleexcept passing, or overtaking vehicle going same direction or obstacle doesnt allow for it. When preparing for a left turn, or when going straight when there is a right turn lane available.
Now the bigger point made by me and some others, is this minor inconvenience is nothing in the big scheme of things, it is better to show some comnsideration and compassion, and even being the bigger man if nessecary, then to end up being wrong and hurting or killing someone!
Now why dont we drop this one and agree that there are jayholes on both sides of the commuter issue, and also some really good ones. Just as there are some people not quite as knowledgeable to there own local vehicle laws, and a whole bunch that feel the rules dont apply to them. better for all if we all can live to do it again another day. Have a nice day! Dan
Even though I don't ride bicycles I have redden a motor bike several years on and off, now more on but I firmly believe in following the rules of the road. I do not consider my my self to be better than every one else on the road. I do have my place out there but I feel I cannot hold up traffic or cause detriment through selfish antics. I do however know that I must drive for others at a stop sign as well as my self as I have been blown away by cars that did not see me and didn't think that cute little red octagon thing up there on the post applied to them if no one was looking.

Exactly!
Which is why I do not much mind people cutting through lanes to get to the front. Illegal, yes, not smart, probably. But, I have done far worse things then to worry about such a small thing someone else does. I am glad I never had to pay for every stupid, slightly gray, or ill thought out thing I have done. Past, present, and future ;-)
To me it is mostly a freedom thing. If you brother is doing something not quite legal and feeling FREE doing it, where it does not really HURT you, is it really necessary to cut them off or punish them by endangering their lives by closing lanes, driving close, opening doors, etc.? not imho. Just wave and smile.
I guess this is why the President of the USA has to be 35 years of age and older. The older you get, the more the little things don"t usually bother you in the big picture.
