Hey guys suspension question here, the rear leaf spring mount on the frame on the driver's side is lookin pretty homely along with the shock mounts for the rear axle. Im pretty handy with a torch and welder, would I be better off fabricating my own new mounts or would finding them off as late of year junker as possible be easier? What years do you think would work? Or is there an aftermarket solution? Thanks for the input....
Personally, I would go hit the junkyards and buy me a rust free part from the same year truck, or from the same generation anyways. This way everything fits back together. There are many aftermarket spring hanger offerings out there
I replaced the ones on my '79 and also on my '88, I can tell you that 2 of the 4 holes were the same on the '88, when matched up to the '79, don't know about the 80-86 yrs, I just took 1 off of another 73-79 truck and bolted it on as a replacement.
I'm almost tempted to use the good one as a template for making my own out of some more beefy material like 3/8" plate, then mount some 250 springs. Or would they not be worth the hassel?
