No. The hatch pattern is actually 2 quarts. I can't remember if it says it in the owner's manual or if it is actually stamped on the dipstick, but I know that it's 2 quarts from high to low (or full to add, I can never remember what the words are).
And dang -- I forgot to pull my dipstick and look at it. I was parked a little grade so I didn't bother yesterday when I went out to do it. Too lazy (or cheap) to start the truck just to move it to a flat spot...
I'll check it tonight. But since we're talking about oil, I just noticed that WM is selling MotorCraft 15W-40 in **5** quart jugs for the price of 4 quarts of the other dino oils. I am seriously considering switching to their oil now, even though it's dino. 3 jugs of MC oil plus an FL1995 from WM is about $44. Not too bad, and I'll live with 5k OCIs for that price...

Mobil sells their diesel oil in 5 gallon "pails" which is also about the price of 4 gallons separately. Currently they are having a deal on their Delvac 1300 (dino stuff) where they are doing a mail-in rebate of $3 per gallon and $12 per pail (5 gallon). I think Wal-Mart carries the 1300 but I got the rebate form at Pep Boys (I'm sure the rebate form is on-line somewhere too).
Switched from Rotella (Shell) to Delvac (Mobil) this change and the truck seems to be running great (sucked out and replaced the HPOP oil too) and haven't had to add any oil yet (2K since change).
Edit: Sorry about the hijack...I didn't realize it until now.
Yeah, sorry 'bout that... Didn't mean to hijack either -- just thought I'd drop that in since I saw it last night. What does the 5 gallon pail end up being? I think the Delvac is about $13/gal at WM, IIRC...
I'm not trying to nickel & dime this, but I'm SOOO tired of getting raped by the oil companies, I'm thinking of scrimping where I can for a while. I really prefer syns -- always have. But there's no earthly reason why diesel should be a dollar more per gallon that gas!!!! That milestone just set me off for some reason... Sorry!!

I think the Delvac 1300 Super (dino) was around $45 or $50 for the pail at Pep Boys.
Good price. How tough is that 5 gal bucket to work with? Do you dispense it in 1 gallon jugs or what? I'm thinking that if I go that route, it's adding a bit of a PITA factor that might not be worth it, if I can get 5 quart jugs at $11 in the MotorCraft flavor. I never thought about the big pails for that reason. How do you all that use them get it in the truck?

The gallon jugs have a cool pull-out spout, kind of like a larger version of what you find on a beach ball (with a screw on top). I now have 4 of those to use that I can fill with a funnel from the pail to put into the engine. If you don't have something to put the oil in to transer to the engine you're probably looking at some kind of siphon or transfer pump. It may take a few extra minutes but every dollar saved is another dollar towards a mod!
