trans brake c6

How exaclty does a trans brake work on a c6 with a valve body that you have to push the brake botton when using reverse?

you have to push the trans brake button to go in reverse? thats weird, C6 i had in my old 89 stang, you just held the button till you were ready to launch and then let go.

RE: transbrake operation

You probably have the "pro" style transbrake installed in your C6 valve body which requires the activation of the transbrake solenoid [along with putting the gear shift selector in "reverse"] in order to back up. The transbrake itself works by: moving the shift selector to 1st gear & pushing the solenoid button; the solenoid depresses a pintle valve(s) in the transmission valve body which allows fluid flow to the front clutch pack & opens fluid flow to reverse gear at the same time; this action effectively puts the transmission in both 1st & reverse gears - keeping it from moving [forward] as long as the transbrake button is depressed & sufficient line pressure keeps the clutch pack engaged & the fluid flow to reverse gear.

Then when you're ready to "launch" the car [after bringing up the rpm to your preferred launch point], you release the button & off you go...!
