Wink Trailer mirror disassembly???

As many of you may have seen in my last post regarding mirrors I damaged my RH one with paint stripper and have gotten a replacement from bens99f350 so now I am trying to disassemble my old one to get ready to take some parts from the donor when it arrives.
I have gotten the door side apart so I am good to go there but now I need some help in taking the mirror head side itself apart mainly so I can unhook the wireing harness so I can swap parts around....I thought about cutting the one ends wires and then splicing them back together but I really don't like that idea. so anyone familliar with this I'd really appreciate some help, THANKS!!

If I understand correctly, you want to get inside one mirror to switch components with the new one? Well, heres what I did to completely disassemble my mirror to install my LED turn signals...

Tilt the main glass all the way towards the truck. (glass, not entire mirror). Take a long slotted screwdriver and look towards the center of the back of the main glass. There is a little ball looking thing. Put the slotted tip in between the housing and the ball and rotate. You have to be a little careful, but it will pop out. It is like a ball socket mount. This will expose the wiring and the screws that hold on the back cover. Next, tilt the spotter mirror (fishbowl looking) in like you did with the main glass. There is a large ball socket on that too. Do the same as you did above, BUT make sure the screwdriver isn't touching the edges of the spotter mirror anywhere when you pop it off.The glass breaks easily. Ask how i know. You just want the screwdriver to pop the ball out, you aren't prying on the mirror itself. You should now be able to see all the wiring. Take a thin screwdriver and pop the little socket plugs off the motors. Pry only on the metal socket. Do NOT pull on the wires to disconnect them. You WILL break the connectors...ask me how i know this too. The bolts will be visible and you can loosen those. The inner structural plastic will come off towards you. Now you will see the telescoping arms with the retaining clips. They just push off. Don't lose these.Pry them off and you can carefully pull the entire front cover off, but be careful of the wires. Now you are left with just the two arms and part that bolts to the door. Remove the rest of the mirror from the door by unplugging it from the interior connector, and removing the bolts holding the assembly to the door. Now, there are clips you have to look for on the molding that goes around the arms on the door. The cover for the arm/main assembly has little clips around the inner metal structure. Carefully remove those and slide the cover off. Rebuild is the same as disassembly except backwards... Sorry I have no pics when I did this, because my computer that has all the pics is not working right... I have pics of my cool mirror blinkers, but that won't help haha....

Sorry for the long post...If you want more help, let me know.

CAMO: Hey, Thanks for this!!!! I can do this!! like I said I've got the door part all apart, and all I need to do is the actual mirror head side now.
I would actually like to see what your LED signals look like.....did you cut non-lighted mirrors and install them yourself??

yea, I bought the LED assembly and then cut holes in the mirrors. Then I press fit them in. Haven't had any problems with them... I wired them in to make them blink with the signals, and also to be runing lights at night...

Where did you get the wires??

I like the looks and idea of having turn signals AND clearence lights on the mirrors. Where did you find the wires to power the lights? I may give it a whirl if it isn't too difficult.....thanks for the help, Dave

Sorry for the wait. I had to add wires from the front corner marker and also from the turn signal. It isn't too hard, just taking the mirror apart is tedious... wiring is easy. You will need trailer wire converters to make the light blink with the headlights off, and on... LEDs are polar so the traditional way of adding clearance and blink signal to the LED isn't as easy as running a feed from parking lamps and blinkers. The converter fixes this...
