Somehow I've managed to lose the special wheel socket that takes off the alloy wheels on my 94 f-150. There's only one of the specially designed nuts on each wheel...
Any suggestions of where I could get a replacement or how to get the wheels off without damaging the studs?
Hopefully,
Matt
You're talking about locking lug nuts, like the ones they sell at Pep Boys, McGaurd, I think, right? You may be able to get a new key socket if you can find the key number, may be inscribed on the nut. If they were a Ford or dealer option, maybe contact your Ford dealer. If those avenues dont work, I have removed them with a pipe wrench before, only works if you have some room to work in there. I would try going to a wheel shop who knows, they may have a better idea.
i remember my days in the tire shop dealing with those all the time when people lost or dont have the special socket. if you take it to a tire shop they should have the tool to get it off. it is basicly an impact socket that has a smooth bore just like a pipe. you pound it on with a BFH and use an impact to get it off.

You should be able to remove them with a 12pt, 18 or 19mm socket (can't remember which). Just hammer it on, and twist the lug off. You'll probably ruin the socket, so I would advise you go buy a few before you start.
Thanks for the tips. The ford dealer gave me the McGard phone number, they are the folks who manufacture these. 18004445847 for anyone stuck in a similar situation. They're not open yet this morning, but I think they can send me the a new key.
This will work- (easily on McGard locks)
Use an air hammer with a chisel bit in it. Hammer at an angle to spin it off. It will loosen it enough to finger it out very quickly, and it probably won't even ruin the lock nut. Not that it would matter since you don't have the key. This even works with Gorilla Locks, which I think you should replace your McGards with because their much better(security wise), and the key they come with is easier to use cause it's a little specialty socket.
