I love the sound of a free-breathing 7.3 but also enjoy a quite ride with the windows rolled up. As you know, the 7.3 X is plenty loud in the cabin from the factory.
Will an MPRP 4" turbo back exhaust make it a lot louder at highway speeds inside the cabin with windows up? I want to add a DP chip and know the exhaust helps reduce EGT and get the most performance from the chip mod.
Would the 4" MBRP turbo back with muffler be louder than a muffler bypass with factory exhaust?
Thanks for any help...

I have a 6.0 PSD and it and the 7.3 sound totally different. However I think the MBRP Turbo back would probably be louder than just removing the stock muffler. Mostly due to the CAT. The MBRP turbo back generally fills that void with a "test pipe" instead of a CAT. If you want it to stay quiet, get a quality cat back system and keep the CAT. Lose the CAT and it will get loud. My 6.0 had a Banks cat back system and was too quiet. So I purchased the 3.5 down pipe and test pipe. It's fairly loud now. The only time it gets on my nerves though is when I'm towing heaving and pulling grades. Other than that it's not bad.
When I did the MBRP 4" turbo back and AFE stage 2 intake, I was really disappointed with how loud the exhaust was...I could barely hear it with the windows down, much less with the windows up!
I straight piped my 7.3 and LOVE it, it only really gets loud with the rear window vent open going uphill next to the mountain! Of course in the AM when it is cold and the wastegate closes, my daughter says it sounds like a jet!
I just did this exhaust, with the MBRP muffler, which is a glasspack or something like it. I'd say that there's a small amount of drone around 1500 RPM or so but beyond that it's about the same volume as (but entirely different sound than) the stock exhaust. Kick *** whistle/chuffing sound.
But my freaking motor is so clattery I've had a hard time hearing the exhaust anyway, unless I get my wife to rev it while I stand near the back of the truck.
The drone can be dealt with using sound deadeners. Add some weight to the body panels and add some stuffing to absorb the rest. You don't have to go all out and do the entire floor, maybe 50% of the rear floor in an asphalt/butyl matting and then some Jute or similar under the carpet.
I am trying self expanding acrylic foam in a spot on my truck to see if it helps. There are all kinds of less expensive sound deadening tricks, take a look and experiment.

Dynomat, or similar products like Dynomat, are the easiest, most commonly used sound insulators.
I have the AFE stage 2 with the MBRP 4' exhaust. I noticed it was louder than stock obviously. It was loud enough to noticve the difference, but living in the city it wasn't loud enough to disturb the neighbors. Dont know how it would sound with a tuner. Haven't purchased that yet.
I went with the silverline 4" turbo back and it's not loud at all in the cab, similar design to the mbrp also using evolution programer on tow, love this combo.it works great with the 11,000-12,000 lbs of toy hauler I lug around.
I also have the MBRP turbo back,no cat on the '00 and early '01s and it does have a drone till it really gets warmed up and then you don't notice it..
But,good grief man, you're driving a POWER STROKE DIESEL and they ain't s'posed to be quiet.

Mine too, untill I add two stroke oil to that crap ULSD I'm forced to use.

Ditto, I love mine. Put a AIS on it and if gets better
