anyone's opinion on which way i should go. 6" lift with 37's or 8" with 38's. is the driveshaft lengthening the only hold back on the 8". been thinking real hard about which kit to buy for best ride quality but would like yalls honest input .thanx ,scott
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Dec-02 AT 10:30 PM (EST)]I say if you think you might the bigger lift go for it. I installed a 4" lift and 35s on my 2001 F350 PSD and within a year I'm already lookin to upgrade to 10"-12" lift with 38"-40" tires. The higher you lift the more problems you create but I think that with an 8" lift you haven't created any serious driveline issues. i even know people who run the stock driveshaft with the lift. You should also change the gearing to correct for the larger tires.
Ihear good things about the edge lift kits and national springs but they are probably the most expensive. Other quality kits that are more affordable include skyjacker, fabtech, etc..
i probably will go with a edge lift but i was really wanting to hear if there is a BIG difference in ride quality between the different lift manufacturers say edge vs. superlift or fabtech
From what I have heard from superduty headquarters in Arizona, the EDGE is supposed to be the best ride quality kit. How big is the difference, I don't know. I think that YETI has a 8" superlift maybe he'll chime in and let you know what he thinks about the ride quality.
Well.. From what I have read and seen, the edge has a nice package if you got the change to buy one.
I run the SuperLift springs on mine with Fabtech braketry with Skyjacker shocks, and like the ride a lot. It improved the factory ride tremendousley. I did however run the X spring from the factory.
If I were to do it again, I would think seriously about the edge kit and fabtech kits.
I have always run superlifts, this is my 6 truck with their product, and it was before I found this site. Where I live, there are no aftermarket 4x4 shops to get info from, so I went with what I knew worked. Also, if I were going huge I would look into national spring, but I am limited on my lift size, do to snowplowing and my lift laws.
IMO most kits are based on the same engineering, our SD's are pretty straight forward to do a lift on and other than spring quality the kits are pretty similiar. Sometimes you have to do your own research to find what sounds like the kit for you, and not take someone elses word for it. I know their are kits out there that I wouldn't put my garbage can on, for fear of it collapsing, but the guys who run them kits, will tell you they are the greatest.
I don't think you can really go wrong with The Edge, Fabtech, SuperLift, Skyjacker, I have seen all these kits and they all look to be very well engineered, as far as some others, I would stay away from them.
i know what you mean about conflicting stories about lifts, back in the 80's when i ran big lifts on toyotas there weren't many options, now its hard to get the straight facts or a consensus.i can afford the edge all spring lift but i got a little discouraged when i asked them a couple of questions about their lift especially about if they believe 37-12.5 will fit on a 6" lift. i have resigned myself to maybe get a 8" just to make sure but bilstein shocks 5100 series dont come above a 6" kit and the 7100's are special made to order, take a long time to get and are very expensive.does rancho make a 9000 to fit a 8" lift?i have researched this till i'm blue in the face but want to get it right on this expensive truck as the older my young'uns get and me being almost 40 years old this might be the last time i get to play.thank you all for any info you have or opinions.as long as i have been reading these post here i know yeti has good insight and i thank you for your opinion also ,,,,,scott turner
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Dec-02 AT 01:36 PM (EST)]Bilstein 5100s are availalbe for lifts above 6" I know the longest 5100 has an extended length of some 34". In the Superduty forum there is a Thread on Bilstien 5100 and has some sites that have them with the new nickel plated finish. Donahoe racing recommends the 7100s for their 8" lift and when I called them 3 days ago and they told me that they have the 7100s in stock and they are custom valved for the spring rates that they use in their kits. As for the 37" fitting with a 6" lift I guess it depends on how seriously you are going to wheel the truck.
on edit: the thread in the SD forum is Bilsteins(finally!!!)
Hey yeti! I was wondering about your lift. Is the lift springs superlift? Did you have any drive line vibes? Did you have to get the driveline modified? If so who can do it for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
