Originally I thought the kick down was binding or misaligned because it started after a carb rebuild and a long period of sitting.
I've replaced the vacuum lines and I still have the same problem. 1 and 2 OK but D downshifts and slips.
I've removed the module and I know its bad because the vacuum line on the outer edge of the module had a bit of transmission fluid in it.
It has dual diaphragms so there are two vacuum lines to attach.
My problem is that I've called and driven all over town, O'Reilly, NAPA, AutoZone, Bumper to Bumper, and even Advance.
Nobody has the correct module.
Some show only single vacuum attachment for a single diaphragm others show a dual diaphragm but the connector is threaded, mine's not.
Also, I have cleaned mine up pretty well but if the color stripe was there 33 years ago its not now.
What color stripe is correct?
Will one of the single diaphragm modules work? Just capping the other line.
Will the double diaphragm with the plastic connector coming in from the side work?
Or do y'all know if I'm even on the right track? Are the symptoms not correct for module problem?
Its been along time since I have seen a dual vacuum modulator, and all the ones I have seen have had the outer line disconnected. I say dont worry about the dual line and install the single line modulator, just make sure that the line is connected to the back of the intake and that the vacuum decreases with engine rpm. I doubt that you will be able to find a dual one because they have been discontinued.
I've found a dual diaphragm but I'm not sure if its the correct one. Besides, they'll have to order it.
I suppose I'll try the single port one with the green stripe and see what happens.
At this point, I've looked all over and talked to several differnt people and gotten several different answers.
I guess I'll just have to pull all the vacuum lines and start from scratch. The modulator didn't help. I think it still has a vacuum leak but I didn't think it wouldn't improve at all.
Still no 3rd.
Anyone else seen this before?
When its in D its in first gear and will not shift at all, also it slips (I think, It doesn't seem to grab, revs with little movement, seems severe for slip)
1 is strong with no slip.
2 is strong with no slip.
Down shifts from D to 2 and starts 'slipping' again.
