!!!Transmission Help!!!

Hey im having a strange problem with my 95 Ford PSD w/automatic trans (i think its an e40d) with exactly 200,000 not sure if its the original tranny or not but the fluid is nice and red not brown. ok here goes when driving at interstate speeds in od if you let off the accelerator its almost like it drops out of gear and when you give gas again its like it revs up slightly then goes back in gear but it repeats this process almost all the time in the last two days and its quite annoying. so do you all think its internal or something electric? what can i do myself to try and check it im pretty mechanically savvy i just havent done much with trannys i just put in all 8 injectors myself last week. oh and one more thing if you mash the gas harshly after it drops out of gear its almost like it will slip partially and once its back in gear its all good... from a dead stop all the way through 4th gear no slips or shudders just this problem at highway speeds...and when i say its drops out of gear it really may be like the tc unlocking and then locking up again when i give it gas but ive drove this truck for 30000 miles and its never acted in this manner till a few days ago... thanks any help is appreciated

sounds like the tranny is starting to slip, just age and use. Other may have there thoughts so hang on, but I would say the clutch packs are getting worn that is why the slipping. It is time to rebuild or get a reconditioned.

It sounds to me like the torque converter is unlocking and relocking. It's supposed to do that.

If the trans were slipping the fluid would turn brown in the first couple miles and black within 20 miles.

The clutch packs are about to give up on you. My truck was doing that, and I just bit the bullet and got it rebuilt. Don't go the cheap way when rebuilding it though. Its tempting, but don't do it! Good luck.

thanks guys for the quick responses but i got 1 more thing to add and that is that the cruise control has quit working as well but the speedometer/odometer appear to still be working correctly so is this just a coincidence or are they related?? And also just to add that in regards to the tc locking and unlocking it has just started acting this way in the past week.. and like i said its just strange to me how on the interstate howeverytime i get back on the throttle is revs up just alil before pulling again. thanks for the help

sounds like normal operation to me. posted about this a while back about my 04 4r100 doing the same thing. custom tuning can keep the converter locked, dont fix it if its not broken!
