Hi Guys,
I know theres another forum covering Audio things, but Ive posted a request there, and figured Id do it here as well...Im looking to replace the OEM AM/FM Casette in my 97 F-150XL with a AM/FM CDplayer.Anyone that has one theyve swapped out,and want to get sold, let me know. Not really interested in a multi-disc changer, just a standard in dash OEM unit. I know I could go aftermarket with an adapter, but wat to keep it stock. Love this truck!
In my 1998 SC I have a 6 pack cd built into the drivers side wall in the back seat. I'm not sure they had a built in dash cd for 97 or 98. There is no mention of one in my manual. It's possible a later year may fit.
I did the same thing on my '98. The 97-98 has the old style dual plug harness. It's much easier to find later model F150 or other model radios and they are single plug. I bought a wiring adapter, the plug that came with the radio and spliced them together. Mine is from an Explorer I think and was bought at the salvage yard. You have to be somewhat cautious in what you buy as some OEM systems require an amp.
edit: Oh, and I did have to use the center dash piece that surrounds the radio from a 99-03 model. They're slightly different around the radio and it looks better using the later model piece .... no gaps.
Here's the '99-'03 panel.
