Tire sizing help needed!
A. I need help sizing the tires. Currently, I have P255/70/17, but I would like to get a little heftier and larger tire WITHOUT impacting the speedometer, transmission, computers, etc. I have one tire dealer telling me that I can go to a P265/65/17, and another telling me that I can only go to a P265/70/17. Last night, at a different dealers, they tried putting on a P265/65/17 on a rim, and couldn't get it to bead, but I'm not 100% sure that they knew what they were doing? Andy suggestions? I need tires FAST too! I have one that is on the cord.
B. The reason I need new tires is because when going to get the tired balanced and an alignment, they showed me why the right (passenger) front tire was vibrating. The VERY inside corner was worn down to the cord! I've owned this truck for only a year and only just now started to feel the vibration. The alignment is so close that they said it wasn't worth aligning. I need to replace that tire, and since it's a 4WD, I "get" to replace all 4 tires. But, with the new tires, I do not want to have to replace them again with the strange tire wearage! The mechanics that found the bad tire also checked the ball joint and it was ok, as well as the caster/camber/alignment was ok too. Any idea of how the inside corner was wore out on only one tire when the alignment was good?
Thanks in advance!
Ron

don't know what to tell you. there is nothing you can do with a bigger tire that won't affect your speedo. nature of the beast man.
either keep it the stock size, or go bigger and recalibrate
I suggest a 285/70/17 (32" tire). the 285/70/17 is a popular tire size and most brands make it. I really like the Wrangler MT/R in that size...and the BFG M/T KM2 looks wicked as well. If you're after a A/T tire, the BFG A/T is pretty good.

let me guess, you have the Ameritrac tires...or the BFG's Rugged Trails don't you? if so, they are some of the worst tires you can possibly buy. if your alignment is good, and the ball joint is okay, then it's a tire issue.
I had some of the General tires on a 98 F-150 that barely made it 1,000 miles. I went 4x4 1 time and the POS tires lost quarter sized chunks of rubber on all 4 tires.
Thanks in advance!
