I have asked a number of questions on this forum and "tried" to contribute to other members questions based on my very limited knowledge and experience. I truly hope some of my posts are not what is referred to here.

That said, there are many people on this forum that are REALLY knowledgeable about our trucks and that kinda makes the rest of us a little shy about posting answers we think we know. I usually state that I am not the expert and that there are others that would have a better answer, and I would NEVER answer a question as the expert (or novice) on a subject that could be dangerous and cause harm to anyone.

There are many here that I believe (as I do) that this forum, as a "discussion forum" is also a great educational tool and sorta like a social chat room, so even though all posts are not directly to the point or technical in nature it's pretty easy to cruise past the ones you don't think apply or in the case of certain posters, put on ignore.

Just my 2 cents worth..
I love this site!

So your arguement is, you should be able to post what you want, when you want, in anyway you see fit, right or wrong, even if the information is wrong and can potentially hurt or kill people.

I would think people would have comon scence, and courtesy not to put out bad information.

I usually if sumthin' sparks my interest in a thread title will read it, sometimes things closely related are also answered, so the 'right/wrong' poster is null & void then , right? I think Some People just don't wanna read sumthin' and not quite get a "Mr Spock" (Star-Trek) logical' answer but a 'damn, I have to think' answer.............my 2pence folks

It happens everyday on here and every newsgroup. :)

Welcome to the real world. ;)

For me this thread and what I write here isn't about winning an argument.
If it is for you, then leave me out of it.

I'm trying to convince Brent et.al. that they are stepping out on to a very
slippery slope. And through-wishful-thinking trying to "fix" something that
hadn't been a problem.

"Dangerous posts" are only a problem in your mind. :)
Think again, please?

So, 81, the answer to your first question...

Yes. :)

I'm a fairly new user of this site here so maybe my opinion isn't worth much. I have found alot of usefull information but I would have to agree the search function can get cluttered up with useless info. I do like the chatter, compliments, and small talk that does go on. That being said I do find it frustrating when people post information on a topic they know nothing about. I agree that it can be dangerous and I also would be frustrated if I asked a question and got some bad advice that cost me alot of money or caused me to wreck something on my rig. I would have to agree if someone asks how to do something or how something works and you don't know we don't want to hear how you think it might be done if you don't know. I find some people who obviously don't know the answer can do a pretty good job of sounding like they know what their talking about. And a word of advice to newer members, just cause someone posts alot on here doesn't always may they know what they are talking about or are giving you good info.

Haha, that made me chuckle actually. The Grandma thing. .

I think extremes are bad in any position.
In one extreme "Big Brother" controls every move or breath you make for "Your own good".

Then the other extreme there are no rules, anarchy insues and civilization colapses.

There has to be a comon ground between the two.

Rule of thumb, if you want to do something stupid, then that's fine as long as it don't affect other people negatively around you.

Cool, 81, I'm glad you can see through my dumb crap! :)

I like to use words/phrases like..
I figure..
I'm guessing, but...
I believe...

To let the person know that's reading it, -they are the one- that needs to
-find out for sure- on -their- end. I don't want to be their leader.

Some see it as "he don't know" "he's not sure of himself".
And that would be right. :)

They are supposed to be using their own head, I'm just trying to help.
...and have at least some fun doing it? :)

We are dealing with Fords right? ;)
"never learned how to make the same part twice ;)" -my Chevy buddies

So there is always a question to what they've got besides changes by PO's.
Even Bill the Number Dummy runs into that trouble ever'once in a while. :)

I wired signals for the railroad and I liked it, dug ditches and climbed poles,
ran around loose... and the notion of needing to be "all the way sure" when
I did something suited me too. :)

Anyway when I say "I'm sure" of something it's pretty unusual.

The ones to watch out for IMO are the ones that speak in absolutes.
I know it for sure
no question
it's easy
it's simple

Remember the true/false questions in elementary school and how you'd
look for words like "never" and "always". Look at posts with "true/false"
in mind and you'll see some real doozies. LOL :)

Buyer beware?
Heck, this stuff is free for cryin' out loud! LOL :)

When you make a mistake just be glad there is someone there to correct
it for you and for everyone else that's reading the thread too.

this is a forum that is open to everyone, heck even a chebby guy could get on here, all i am saying is this is a forum that has real people on it, you might have a 14 year old kid learning about these trucks because his grandpa had one, or a imature teen or a 40 year old guy who bought his truck 15 years ago, or even the 55 year old guy who bought his 75 new! and they all have different levels of experience and knowledge, and you can't stop a 14 year old from saying i don't know or not sure comments, or a imature person making dumb comments, sure you can weed out profanity and personal attacks but you can't censor peoples quirkiness or they way the think out loud and say i don't know, and i have seen teachers and mangers and bosses give bad advice and the wrong answer should those people lose there jobs becasue they made a mistake? if it was serious sure, but every one makes mistakes or can give a wrong answer, and that's how people learn, they make mistakes and learn from more wise people. I for one am only 19 and i may know alot about these trucks and old cars in general, i would not consider my advice pro advice, if i am not 100 percent i always state that someone else will chime in with more experience with there problem, i have seen threads started that don't even get any reply's and i often read there post and and give them my 2 cents and to let them know that someone has taken a look at there thread, and it will often attract more people to the thread, and i always tell people to get in contact with people like number dummy who have years and years of knowledge and have first hand experience with these trucks and there parts. You can not simply silence people, and if you have a problem with that i guess you can always find another forum, and i will bet that those other forums are just like this one if not worse, so take a chill and just enjoy what this site is a site where us ford truck guys can chat and talk shop and ask questions, and some people just like to lighten the mood, which is good in this often cold virtual world! and if we have everything censored and deleted for any reason, that is just wrong we have freedom of speech and we can express our selves on here, and this thread is more likely to stop shy people who are afraid to break the ice, look at my post count its low and you know why! because i was shy and thought people would ridicule me for a silly comment and that was nuts, i read and read alot of threads and gained knowledge then i started posting so i had aleast some knowledge of these trucks, plus this site has given me alot of help in restoring my truck and i am glad i can post in coincidence and guys like brentleedragon don't help with threads and post like his, you are putting alot of users down with this thread and if i remember the rules on here you sir are attacking people who make silly comments! shame on you! lol

my point wasnt to remove the cool post from the threads. I guess I should have worded the post better, my point was the useless information and its where I should have said. I dont want to remove the random post my intention was I should have said was that the bad information is just ridiculous sometimes, in the sense that somebody will just not know anything and it is pure bad information over and over and it is like 81 said possibly harmful and could kill somebody.

I like the fun of the this thread for example, Alvin I absolutely love your post and enjoy your brute responses. my whole point is, it seems like a lot of people are posting "advice" when they really dont know on subjects to get their post count up. You can have fun, but if you dont know the answer why give advice to it?

I was just trying to get the people who do this to look and go maybe I shouldnt tell someone that they only need to put one bolt in their bell housing and not tighten it all the way and they'll be ok becasue that's just bad advice ( that is a little extreme)

If you're attacking me, you must realize that our post are the exact same time.

Anyyyhow, I wasnt trying to attack people. My point was just try to be more conscience about a post, if you really dont know the answer, why post an "answer" a cool or awesome thing would be better than giving advice when you do not actually know it

i can see that extreme point brentleedragon but i am taking about posts where people give there advice like you could use a edelbrock carb i heard there good! or you could just buy a new hinges if the hood don't shut good? things like that are good for this forum and you can't change human nature they will say the darnedest things, sure a comment like don't worry that squeaky brake will be fine for another 2 years is a bone head comment but ya got to learn to just pass them by, man if i took every little comment serious like i once did then i would be banned from this site for life! and you have to take it in strides, but people with little knowledge can add there 2 cents in because if no one tells them there wrong or corrects them then they will never learn, and like my grandfather says there's no stupid questions or answers, if you don't ask or answer even if its wrong then you are dumb and you will never learn, and that is alot worse then a silly or wrong comment!

to me it doesnt bother me too much actually, I have found myself almost abandon the search function but not too bad. I just know a lot of people out there are frustrated by it. I understand where everyone is comming from. And I wasnt talking about like the you could use edlebrock their good, that isnt bad.

the point was as I said just to try and get some people more conscience to their post

oh okay i just wanted to make sure this thread did not turn into a witch hunt, and i can see where some bone head comments are not called for, but there's a lot of good people who i bet are afraid to add there two cents, because there afraid of being cut up, and i think some bonehead comments are intended as jokes and the funny thing is my name is Brent, so i had to take a double take on some peoples comments lol and i think this site is all in good fun, i just don't want users to be afraid of making a stupid or wrong comment, we can't learn if we don't make mistakes and if there is shy users reading this please come out and post it was the best thing i ever did, you get a fuller experience and you can become buddys on here trust me plus you can ask more detailed questions or share your own stories and knowledge, so please post your heart out and share what you have to say on the threads, because if we all kept are virtual mouths shut then this site would not exist and it would serve no purpose! and i think the search should be more accurate and it often takes me to other post that have no connection? that is a website issue and not a user issue. And i enjoy this little thread debate and counter point comments, and i mean no anger to you brentleedragon, i just know what its like to not want to post because you feel like you lack knowledge on that subject and i have learned a lot from just reading but i now know even more since i started posting! and its fun to talk and comment and make threads that are connected to my own issues and ideas like the fun dream thread i made called has any one taken a 73-79 box and put it on a 75-91 econoline van? or my other thread How would you build the ultimate dentside? those are fun and i don't think there a waste of time, if you want to comment then comment but if you don't then don't click on the thread in the first place if you don't like it, well thats my 2 cents and if i hurt someones feelings in this post then sorry in advance as i can come off harsh at times and i can get carried away and make really long posts like this one, i just like to get my opinion out and i tend to rant on like i am right now........lol see ya around guys

Well heck, Brent. :)
Let's face it.
The search function on these website forums sucks! :)
Most guys search from the outside using Google. :)

Now wait a minute...
I just tried "390 crank" and it worked like a champ! :)

I tried that last year and the internal search engine ignored the quotation marks.
And before it'd ignore numbers like "2100" too.

Hmmm...
Danggit,
I'll have to change my mind and stop bad mouthing "website search engines"? :(
